i have a oylmpic AR 16inch barrel with the bayonet lug
where do i get the bayonet?is there a cetain model number bayonet i need?
do i need anything else to go with it?

You do know that a standard issue bayonet doesn't fit right on a 16" barrel?

The loop on the bayonet is designed to go around the flash hider. On a 16" barrel it doesn't work.

There are bayonets that are modified to work on a 16" barrel length, you need to find one of those if you want it to actually look right.

..........or SBR the rifle :)

It won't work anyway if you have a carbine length forearm/sight/bayo lug.

The military M4 barrel is only 14.5" long so a bayonet will fit the flash hider and bayonet lock on the sight.

Civilian legal 16" barrels are too long between those two bayo mounting points, unless you can find a bayonet with a really long handle!

I'd like to see a picture of that!

It should fit your DCM perfectly.
But the M-4, I don't see how unless it has an extended flash hider that goes further back over the barrel?

Ok . . .finally! :)

Assuming that your Oly is setup with the same barrel profile/bayonet as my bushy "M4'gery" it mounts without any adapters, etc.

FWIW

I think the confusion lies in the fact that a bayonet won't mount on a 16" barrel in a carbine handguard configuration, but it will mount on a 16" barrel with a mid-length handguard.

Well I have to claim ignorance as to the difference between a mid-length and a carbine length handguard. I was under the impression that mine was carbine length but I could be wrong . .let me see if I can do a picture of the whole thing.

Looks like you have a SBR to me.

But, I could be wrong. I just know an M9 or M7 bayonet will not fit a 16" barrel with carbine-length handguards.

dmftoy1 my handgaurd is 6 inches long handgaurd its self didn't count the hardware just plastic lol is your rifle handy?if yours measures the same as mine will still won't know what we have but we'll know the bayonet will work on mine

Uhhh that's kinda what it looks like to me too

Sure looks like a 14.5" barrel.

Here is a real M9 issue bayonet from 3 or 4 years ago on a carbine upper with 16" barrel. Sorry for the blurry photo, I just took it in a hurry for this.

The ruler shows the handguard to be exactly 6 inches long. The bayonet clearly doesn't fit "right".

So, the picture above is either a mid length, a 14.5" SBR, or has a bayonet that is not issue but modified to work on 16" barrels.

texas thanks for the info
just wondering why they would bother to put the lug on it
if the bayonet doesn't fit,it clearly show in your picture it does not fit right

just wondering why they would bother to put the lug on it

Because the front sight blade is made into one piece, it's just easier to leave the bayonet lug on there during mass production.

This photo shows the utter stupidity of our politicians and the anti's as well. They wanted this outlawed? This is so "uber" dangerous it must be banned?

You gotta be sh&&ting me.......proof of the utter stupidity of the "assault weapon" definition.

I have no use for a bayonet whatsoever.

But I want one:neener:

I've heard that somebody made some with a long handle setup just right to fit on a "M Forgery" with a 16" barrel.

I've googled it up one side and down the other.

I found several references to these, but have not even been able to find a pic to look at.

I'm not done with this yet.

If any of you find this mythical long handled bayonet, let us know where they are!

It's not considered an SBR. It's a 14.5" barrel, but the Izzy flash supressor he has makes up for the extra 1.5". Same exact barrel as mine.

I was always wondering if I'd be able to fit a bayonet over the Izzy flash supressor. Now I know :D

That makes sense. In the photo the bayonet is still not in the right spot, but it's "closer". The FH still extends a little to far from "correct" but yeah, it works much better.

crow now i'm jealous of you buddy!before i started this thread i didn't realy think much a bayonet now i want one so bad i can't stand it....what for i don't know!i guess if i miss a varmitt i can bail out of the tree and rambo it!

jdh i saw those and yes they would fix the problem
but to me there kinda a eye sore having 2 bayonet lugs and all
thanks for the sugg though!

I swear there was a guy selling modified bayonets that worked fine.

There was a thread on arfcom even, right after the AWB sunset.

I can't find anything on it now though, maybe out of business.
