How bout a list of AR rifle and parts manufacturers- There must be hundreds?-?

Define "manufacturer".:) Most of those guys can be crossed off the list for not actually making anything themselves. Assemblers like my company "make" AR15s. They are a parts gun.
 
just put down "Continental Arms" as the universal AR manufacturer, since that is who supplies alot of the parts or machinery to make said parts.

Very few businesses make everything in-house. Colt is probably the only one nowadays, since they've been at it the longest.
 
im pretty sure sabre makes everything in house too.

i saw it on the outdoor channel or national geographic or something like that.

i could be wrong, but it sems like i saw them milling out the forgings.
 
Colt makes the M4 lowers but outsources the commercial ones.

CMT, LMT, Superior Arms, Mega Machine Shop, Kaiser Defense, Tac Innovations, LAR Mfg make lowers for themselves and pretty much everyone else. A lot of the bolt carriers are CMT with the bolts being small shops. Oly Arms makes all major components in house ie lowers, uppers, barrels, carriers, etc.
 
Why are we providing such an extensive list...? To facilitate politicans' drafting of the new AWB that includes them all...???
 
You think the government can't figure out who all the 07 FFLs are in the country and what types they make? You are aware that us manufacturers have to report annually about the firearms we make?
 
Bushmaster, DPMS, both manufacture rifle parts, and barrels, in fact both are the largest and second largest AR-15 manufacturers in the world.
In fact Bushmaster was manufacturing 1000 barrels a week recently for the demand. Many companies go to these guys for their rifle parts, then call the rifles their own.
Remington are made by these other 2 manufacturers (R-15 bushy, R-25 DPMS).
Does anyone know how much S&W actually manufactures of the M&P15?
Id say there are a few that make most of the parts used by all of them. Some make specialty parts, and features for their own rifles, but dont make the base rifle parts.
 
Bushmaster makes barrels and that's about it. They subcontract everything else but are parts assemblers like most other "manufacturers".

S&W doesn't do squat for their ARs.
 
Who makes S&W receivers? I have a stripped one sitting in my safe I obtained through a trade.

Depends on what you mean by "make". There are only about 4 forges that "make" the initial hunks of raw aluminum blanks.

Some of those blanks go to machine operators that do the final work on the forgings and etch the manufacturers name on them.

Some go to the big names who do the machine work in house.

Some of the machined receivers are finished in house some are sent out to have the finish work done.

Almost no company does 100% of the work on receivers in house. So, if you want to be picky, you could say that there are few/no true AR manufacturers. Most are lowly assemblers.

Not true. I visited the S&W plant in Springfield and saw raw AR forgings there sitting among a pile of other forgings they do on site. At the very least, S&W does the CNC-ing of the receivers.

everyone who doesnt make one is going to eventually just like with 1911s.

Olympic arms is one of the primary makers of lowers I know that much.
 
From Bushmaster themselves (being that they have manufactured ARs longer than all but about 2 companies), some quotes for those who think that they only make barrels and outsource everything else.


"Barrels: We machine our Barrels from either the best grade Chrome-Moly Vanadium Steel, or 416 Match Grade Stainless Steel."

"Forged Front Sights: The front sight base is not a casting. Bushmaster uses only steel forgings which are far superior in tensile strength."

"We machine our receivers"

"Bushmaster also produces equally high-quality parts for their AR15 rifles, including AR15 stocks, upper receivers, and lower receivers."
 
All of this sentinent, that companies only assemble these rifles and they are like lego kits. Some have better reputation than others; they must do something differently that sets them apart? Lest all assemblers be equal, this is not true.
 
There are a few exceptions but 90% of all the AR brands out there (being cautious with words) are about the same since they use the same parts. The few companies that are trash are Blackthorne/Vulcan/Hesse and others like them.

Boutique shops that simply assemble ARs, like my company, can produce a quality weapon if they properly assemble it of quality components. I'd beware of companies that don't state what parts brand they use.

You also have LBR Arms of Long Island. They hammer forge their M1A receivers but I’m not sure about their AR 15 receivers.
