In the process of building an ar 15 pistol chambered in 5.56. Just wondered if anyone loads specifically for ar 15 pistols, and can recommend a good powder load for it. Right now i load my 16" with 55gr fmj and imr 4895 and it works great, but im afraid it may not be as well suited for the shorter barrel. any advice would be great! Thanks!

Use standard .223 load data for any length barrel.

The gas port in the pistol barrel is tuned for standard port pressure used in rifles and carbines.

There is no such thing as AR-15 pistol ammo.
It's all rifle ammo.

Whatever powder gives the highest velocity in a long barrel will also give the highest velocity in a short barrel.

ok cool. I wasnt sure if with the gas port being closer to the chamber that there would be a higher pressure returning through the gas tube or not. I guess it would make sense that it would already be tuned for standard rifle ammo. I had just read that sometimes the shorter barrels can be a little more picky with different ammo.
Still would be interested in hearing if anyone has any "pet" loads for their pistols.

Oh, they are.

But hopefully, the barrel maker you got the barrel from knows what size the gas port needs to be to get it to work with standard ammo pressures.

Damn, RC knows his stuff. If I knew our business as well as RC knows all this stuff I'd be a rich man.
