AR stripped lowers: What would you pay?

80-100, but a lot of times there are people running specials and you can find them for 60 even, not that I would want to use a no-name receiver.

I just bought a blem PSA lower for $60.

I'll be damned, but I can't find the 'blem' on it.

Buy any PSA blem lower with confidence. Only way to go, IMHO.

So $60 for the part, + $15-$25 for the transfer, + whatever the cost of shipping + time spent waiting = more than the $90.10 I will pay after sales tax.
Oh, and the part won't be blemished.

I think I'll stick with the deal I found.

The whole, not able to see the blemish, actually concerns me more. The flaw could be metallurgical.

I like being able to see and handle and perhaps even hand pick, rather than hope for the best and see what I get in a week.

Blemish lowers are always cosmetic, but I can see where folks would not want one if they could get unblemished for the same money. Mine are all blemished now, even though they started life unblemished. I am careful with ARs, but don't baby them like a fine revolver.

I understand the being able to handle one deal.

PSA states that the blem is purely cosmetic, and the part is 100% functional.

Really, I can't find the blem.

EDIT: Just found it. One of the bolt catch 'wings' has a slight indent on the outer part. Purely, 100% cosmetic. Hell, one day of shooting will scuff my AR lower more than this.

I think the blemished thing is just a marketing tool PSA uses. No one is going over parts with a magnifying glass looking for finish imperfections.

The problem is $25 is now the "discount" transfer price around here. My favorite LGS is up to $50. Plus factor in next-day air shipping, sales tax on internet purchased guns, and it pays to stay local.

This illustrates why universal background checks is a very bad idea!

This.^

I have two "blemished" PSA lowers. The only blemish on one is the 1st two letters of the serial number being slightly out of alignment with the rest. On the other, the only blemish is a spot of anodization missing inside the trigger housing (where it isn't visible).

Frankly, the blemished PSA lowers look better than most standard lowers from other manufacturers.

Wow! I guess I win. I bought a machined matched upper and lower for $500. It is nice, but never again. Next time I'll just bring my barrel to my LGS and find an upper with a snug fit:banghead:.

PSA blem lower for $60 + $7 shipping + $10 transfer fee at my LGS = $77. So, if you can pick up a decent lower for ~$90 in stock at your LGS, I wouldn't hesitate. Heck, I'd probably buy a couple at that price, even if I didn't have another build on the radar yet.

Pork Chop,
It turned out to be a kitchen table FFL who refused to reply to email, phone calls, and wasn't available despite setting aside time to make the sale.

The FFL name is Iron Sight Armory, in GR. Can't and won't recommend them.

The PSA blemished lowers sound better and better.

I was browsing through the brownells Ar15/M16 catalog today and noticed they are asking $129.99 for stripped Double Star forged lowers. And Spikes stripped lowers are only $94.99. I would have thought Doublestar would/should always be cheaper than Spikes...

On that same token, they have Seekins billet lowers listed for $249.99, which I thought was pretty reasonable.

I ordered one of the PSA Blems with LPK for $99.95 + $15.00 S&H. That weekend they were also doing free shipping on orders over $150.00 but don't know if that would have included the lower or not. Watch their daily deals they have the lowers both with and with the parts kits on there at least once or twice every week.

From what I've seen, the PSA blemished lowers are a pretty solid deal. The only mark I saw on the one I looked at was a small flaw on one of the stops where the selector lever goes. I also saw it mated up to both a BCM and an Armalite upper with no issues with fit.

The lowers that my LGS is pushing now are polymer ones made by someone, not sure who. But for the $50 they're asking for them, I'd go the extra bit and pay the transfer for a PSA blemished lower any day of the week.

Update: so I got an email from the FFL, who happened to be out of town, which is why he hadn't replied.
Transaction went quickly (in part to my CPL, I'm sure) but the Aero Precision lower is quite nice

Now just to get an LPK and pistol buffer.

Wow i see the average of stripped lowers being about 80 bucks...
So Cal gun prices are really screwed up, I've been sing them for $150-$190 and thought it was a good deal! even if i order online FFL transfer here is about $80, and now they're required to charge sales tax if I didn't pay already from the retailer- I wouldn't get them any cheaper than buying in store!

I haven't bought a stripped lower yet, but the 80% lowers really tempt me.
