Are M-1 carbines Cali legal?

Yup, they are legal. 10 round mags are available on EBay occasionally.

I believe there is an exception for SB 23 based on it being a C&R gun. Otherwise, yes, a M1 Carbine with a bayonet lug would be illegal under SB 23. You could simply cut it off and it would be fine. However, like I said, check out SB23 and I think there is a provision that exempts old guns. I am at the school lab and don't have the time to do it right now.

Actually I believe the bayonet lug is a federal thing. I cannot find any mention of a bayonet lug as an assault weapon characteristic on the CA DOJ website. The law states.

(1) A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has the capacity to accept a detachable magazine and any one of the following: (A) A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon B) A thumbhole stock. (C) A folding or telescoping stock. (D) A grenade launcher or flare launcher. (E) A flash suppressor. (F) A forward pistol grip

Holy crap Batman!!! I never noticed it left out the bayonet lug!!! Wow. How crazy is that. I am a little upset that my new rifle is a little less evil!

12276.1(c) "Assault weapon" does not include either of the following:
(1) Any antique firearm.
(3) "Antique firearm" means any firearm manufactured prior to
January 1, 1899.

An M1 Carbine with its bayonet lug is not an assault weapon by SB 23's standards. How great is that? Now, the new AW Ban does have the M1 Carbine on it. How interesting is that?

Cali does not include the bayonet lug as an "assault weapon" characteristic.

I was just going through their "Assault weapon" identification guide, which actually mentions at the bottom that the bayonet lugs are not considered eeeeevil by Kalifonistan.
