I haven't been able to locate speedloaders for this gun. If available what company and model number of speedloader?

Would it require a different one than for the standard J-Frame?

Ruger sells a HKS 36 on shopruger.com under LCR accessories. Of course you can find them elsewhere as well, just saying that's what Ruger lists.

The one I use for my sp101 fits the lcr just fine.

The HKS 36A should work just fine, as should any made for .38/.357 S&W J frames.

The HKS36 Doesn't fit the LCR...

It is listed but interferes with the grip (I have the CT laser grip on mine). I found a speed loader specially designed for the LCR made by 5 Star Firearms (www.5starfirearms.com) that fit perfectly.

I'll post pictures if anyone needs to see them.

You might give Bianchi Speed Strips a try. They are easier to carry than round speedloaders.

Peoples who say that the HKS 36 doesnt work, will work for the LCR in either caliber. You have to do it right and it takes very little practice. I have taught many LCR owners how to do it 2 to 4 times before they did it on their own. One,you put the edge of the 36 speed loader almost against the left side of the grip where it is flat and then line up the ammo along the charge holes and slide them in and turn the knob and it releases the ammo into the cylinder. Practice for a while and you will see how it works and practice with it with the gun barrel pointed downward. It's easy. Works for my LCR's and SP101's.

Well, my HKS 36 speed loaders do not fit in my LCR at all, no matter what I do. The loader stops at the edge of the brass and is at an angle to the cylinder making a very insecure loading situation that is incompatible to a defense readiness situation:

If I force it forward, it jams making it impossible to release the cartridges and remove the loader:

The 5 Star on the otherhand drops right in without any interference at all:

Plenty of freeplay and easy to release.

    Here is a comparo:

The HKS 36 works perfectly with our S&W Airweights but not the LCRs.

Bergman, did you have the bullets facing downward???? doesn't look like it in the pics. But,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, that's how it is suppose to be. the brass will stick out some what but, will not fall out. Your pics show how the ammo is suppose to go in but,the first pic showed cocked eyed somewhat. The HKS speed loader is suppose to be barely touching the grip to get them straight in to charge holes.

One more thing Bergman, since I do wholesales in firearms and gunsmithing,I have some of my customers that have the same problem and like I said before,Practice and quit complaing about small stuff. Yoi will get the hang of it with P R A C T I C E .

It is cockeyed because it jams against the grips, it is too large in diameter.

The diameter of the HKS Speed loader is 1.338 inches, the cylinder diameter on the LCR is 1.278. The inboard edge of the LCR cylinder, at it's fully open position is still inside of the thinnest edge of the grip.

At the minimum, it takes a speed loader of less diameter than the cylinder to keep from jamming. The widest dimension of the 5 star loader is 1.265 (it is scalloped, difficult to get an actual diameter).

The HKS loader does not fit. It jams every time, every way.

Practice? Practice what? a continuously jamming situation that is potentially worthless in a defensive reload scenario?

The HKS loaders DO NOT WORK with our LCRs with the CT laser grips. There is NO WAY to keep them from jamming solid no matter what the heck I do, period.

If you are in California, I'll give you $100.00 if you can load this thing from an HKS without jamming.

Here are two more pics. I started vertically like you said and instant jam:

The release knob will not turn, it's jammed. Pushing it further just locks it solid as a rock.

I don't know how much clearer I can make it, the freakin' things do not work.

The 5 stars work perfectly, no need to practice at all, no different than all of the other DA revolvers I have that are slick to speed load with no need to practice.

some of us here don't have the laser grip but have the grip that comes with the night front sight. So will the HK 36A work?

    Bottom of this page:

$19.95 each. A little spendy but they are beautifully machined and work slick as a baby's butt.

ok well that's not as bad as i thought. Though i'm guessing the ruger speedloaders are probably 10.00 a piece?
This five star set up looks like that company that sells speedloaders for the 617 a kit that will hold the rounds .22lr inside a board and speedloaders to remove rounds. I forget the name of company but i can find out if anyone is interested. I bought one with 2 speedloaders for s & w 617 because i couldn't find any speedloaders for this gun but it just so happens this is made especially for 617's for some type of matches they have.

Actually I was going to purchase 4 speedloaders for the LCR +P .38 but I might settle for two of these speedloaders.
