Never even heard about him before Friday.

Didn't vote.

You reap what you sow, Zumbo is learning that.

I do enjoy the after effects of everything thats happened though.

To put it more precisely here's the quote from Xavier's Blog that I feel reflects it: http://xavierthoughts.blogspot.com/2007/02/msm-takes-notice-of-zumbos-folly.html

There is no "widening gap between "traditional" and "non-traditional" shooting enthusiasts".

There is a closing of ranks.

This is not a schism.

This is solidarity.

ME AGAIN

As I said before, this must be an absolute no holds barred, tooth and nail assault on what Mr. Zumbo articulated. As far as the gentleman himself I couldn't care less what happens to him but we as a group need to castigate him and his statements completely and absolutely with no hint of wavering or forgivness as an example to our politicians who now sit in the house and senate in Washington DC. No Quarter!

Outdoor Life magazine just punted Zumbo today:

Outdoor Life And Jim Zumbo Part Ways
By Todd. W. Smith
Editor-in-Chief

Outdoor Life magazine Editor-in-Chief Todd Smith released the following statement today regarding writer Jim Zumbo:

February 2007

In light of comments made by Jim Zumbo in his February 16, 2007 blog posting on the magazine’s website, Mr. Zumbo has offered to terminate his association with Outdoor Life, and the magazine has accepted his offer. Accordingly, he will no longer be contributing to the magazine in print or online. His final column with Outdoor Life will appear in the April 2007 issue, which has already gone to press.

We respect Mr. Zumbo's First Amendment right to free speech, and we acknowledge his subsequent apology and admission of error. However, Outdoor Life has always been, and will always be, a steadfast supporter of all aspects of the shooting sports and our Second Amendment rights, which do not make distinctions based on the appearance of the firearms we choose to own, shoot or hunt with.

We regret this turn of events, as Mr. Zumbo has been a good friend to this magazine and lifelong advocate for hunters and hunting rights.

We appreciate the comments we've received from our loyal readers about this matter and encourage them to continue to correspond with us. Please direct any additional comments to [email protected].

I Voted No

He is saying there are three classes of shooters...doesn't matter what they are, what's disturbing is that he actually sees separate classes :scrutiny: he doesn't see one class, shooters, numbers undefined.

He doesn't see the single mother living in the projects who has to make her way home on foot every dawn.

He doesn't see the gay man who has reason to fear walking about or being somewhere alone and wants a CCW to protect his own life. Who values those lives more? Zumbo's out in the damn woods with maybe, what, three other people? Playing "Ponderosa". Enjoying in his "Wild America". Thinking he's "free".

We should eat him...and leave his bones as an example to others. We are ONE PEOPLE, ONE RIGHT, ONE VOICE, ONE FREEDOM TO PROTECT, ONE REASON TO CALL OURSELVES CITIZEN - NOT SUBJECT, ONE TIME, AND IT IS NOW. When Zumbo and all his Ponderosa Pals understand that, and see it as a singular thing, we will have achieved something.

He walked off the Nuge's blog without ever getting "it" so I guess that is the end of it. That is really too bad because some hunters will go that way with him instead of seeing reason.

i posted this on akforum.net,

To be honest, I'd be willing to give jim another chance.

now hold off and listen for a second.

I'm not about to say that if he came out right now I'd listen to him or think he was being genuine. I wouldn't. In fact, I'd have the same feelings that i do about his so-called apology. However, If after the hunt with Ted and perhaps a few more ventures into the non-sporting rifles he begins to really see the appeal of them (not collecting mind you- that may not be his thing; but simply appreciating them), then I might be willing to listen. I think its reasonable that he be able to work his way back up. I think this is a wakeup call to him and all other gun enthusiasts that have beliefs that they need to (1) keep up with the market and the trends and (2) find out facts before trying to make them up. A buddy of mine isn't into AK's. He just doesn't like them. He knows why i like them. He thinks they're fun. But all that said, he still isn't into them. Thats sort of the position I would respect Jim for coming around to about AR/AK/etc "terrorist weapons".

Personally, I dont care for jim. I'm not a hunter. I never have been. It's not my thing, so I was never exposed to him and I never cared until last week. At the same time, I dont ever see him being the huge figure he was just two weeks ago. He offended too many people in a VERY serious way, myself included. So while I think its a possibility that he may be forgiven and given another change, and I won't rule it out, I also think willie nelson putting on a bad show is a possibility- I'm just not counting on it.

At this point, if he wants to do the backstep, he needs to be serious and put the effort out to really learn about what people like, what hunters use, and why we take insult to it.

my thoughts on the matter.
in short, it's WAY premature to start thinking about it.

He's Been Thinking This All His Life

Give the man some credit. He has had a lifetime to think about these matters, to listen to every concievable arguement, to debate with every stripe of individual. He's been everywhere and done everything. His resume is flawless. It's kind of insulting to think that his lifelong convictions can be changed in a moment, because of the protest of others. He is a proud man.

He does not believe that the 2A applies to weapons of the sort that I and others own. It's as simple as that. Does anyone here seriously believe that he's never said this to anyone? Bet your left nut that he's been saying this for years over at Outdoor Life but this is okay with them because Outdoor Life is a rest home for FUDD's.

So no, I will not ever respect him nor forgive him for this well thought out stab in the back.

My absolute bottom line on this.

The big helping hand he just gave the "Brady Bunch" sealed his fate forever with me. Even George Soros' money would have a hard time paying for that kind of endorsement. And they got it for free.

Once a bullet leaves the muzzle, there's nothing you can do to stop it.

Honestly, I never heard of this guy until his bullet left the muzzle. Common sense would dictate what would happen... and it did.

I feel no remorse for the man.

I like to quote the Elizabethan poet, John Donne in cases like this:

For a man to find a good wyfe is like to grope an eel out of a bag full of serpents. If he succeed, what hath he but a wet eel by the tayle?

Even if we convert him, what do we have but a wet eel by the tayle? As a mediocre writer, he can never undo the damage he has done. Let him serve as an example.

Roger that. Seems like there was a certain turncoat general, who...after trying to hand over the fort to the British, and upon emigrating to England fully expecting to be revered as a hero...found that he was reviled on both sides of the Atlantic for his treachery.

Now...what was his name? Hmmmm There's a lesson there.

there is no such word as "alot"!
Not true...i have a house on alot:neener:
to the point..sometimes we say what we think/feel and regret what we say...but(big but here)generally the first words spoken come from the heart.
most of us now are pretty sure, where zumbo is coming from:barf:

Destroying your enemies is good.
Assimilating them is better.

And Zumbo converted back to our side is better than no Zumbo at all.

+1

We had an opportunity to bring him back into the fold. Would a couple articles and a TV show featuring AR's in the field be a good thing?

We'll never know. You'd think we'd be doing backflips to have a convert give positive press to a black rifle. But, why bother closing the gap that separates gun owners when it's more fun to keep pounding on the wedge?

Too busy clutching onto anger to grasp an honest-to-God real opportunity. Sad. So much for taking the high road.

I have heard the killing of Zumbo's career as "turning on one of our own."

Baloney to that - Zumbo WAS NOT ONE OF "US." Not if he really bought his own line about "terrorist rifles."

However....

If I were to TRULY change and become a REAL 2A supporter? I would not turn him away, would you??? I have not even seen his "apology," btw, but it will take MORE than that.

There was a post toward the bottom of the first page about how letting it "just fade away" would have served the cause better.

I disagree 110% with that sentiment!

We "ignore" Zumbo's rant, and what happens? He goes on doing his thing, spreading his propoganda against EBR/"terrorist" rifles, and the anti-gunners get a great new spokesman in the process! How can that possibly be better for us???

Instead, as someone else quoted, we UNITED as 2A supporters and let our displeasure be heard loud and clear! And I'm still a little pleasantly shocked at just what an effect we had.

The problem is not all Zumbo...the problem is all the gun owners out there with the "Zumbo Mindset." Hopefully this will open their eyes to the big picture.

If it just makes them angry at US the guy getting "Zumbowned," then IMO they're too far gone to the "anti" side to be saved anyhow. Unless we can win them back when the gun grabbers come for their "SNIPER RIFLES"

I'd be all for it if the man was actually a "convert".

Reading what he's written since his attack, I'm finding it difficult to sense anything except regret for lost status and revenue, and any PR he'd be doing (with the mindset he seems to still harbor) would be community service penance shilling that would get him in the fold just enough to drop another bomb on the RKBA community at a later date.

Let's see if Mr. Zumbo comes to understand the real reason why we feel outraged and betrayed, and wait to see where that leads him.

(Here's a hint, Mr. Zumbo: We don't care a whit that you now say that you're ok with the "newly discovered" fact that EBRs are sometimes used for hunting.)

Maybe now that Zumbo is gone, they'll hire somebody like Zack Smith or Tamera to do the that AR show. And Tuner, we need Tuner and the No Bling Happy Hour on TV

Say Zumbo really does learn from his mistake and become a true 2a proponent. Would you be willing to give him a second chance, or is he dead to you for ever and ever no matter what?

Since the question assumes it as given that Zumbo had reformed, I answered that I would forgive him.

In reality I would have little way of knowing that as a fact.

I think his apology, for instance, was motivated by fear rather than a sincere change of heart.

Well..... no you don't.

What you have is a house on a lot.

Or maybe you think that you have ahouse on alot....? Or something along those lines. :scrutiny:

:p

We now return you to your regularly scheduled Zumbo drawing and quartering.
