Black Thursday...

Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s office confirmed that she will be introducing in the Senate Thursday a new version of the so-called assault weapon ban. A spokesman said the full text will be released at a press conference on Thursday.

The California Democrat intends to expand on the ban that expired in 2004, by including handguns and shotguns, in addition to rifles. She would decrease from two to one the number of cosmetic features on a gun to have it be considered an “assault weapon.” This means that if a gun has just one item like a pistol grip or bayonet lug, then it is illegal. Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed into law the same ban in New York last week.

CALL YOUR REPRESENTIVE AND VOICE YOUR OPINION ASAP!!!

The more extreme the proposal, the less chance of passage. We should hope that Feinstein throws everything in there, including the kitchen sink.

And a national registry? I hope she gets laughed out of the chambers. Most likely she is includung a bunch of stuff she know won't pass to pad negotiations

The title is a bit misleading, yes she will be submitting it tomorrow. While it's correct that more extreme the less likely it will be to pass, we can't let our guard down. We still need to contact our reps.

Only one of my Senators is up for re-election in '14, the other just won her seat back.

Both are Detroit-centric Democrats. I'll contact them nonetheless, but I expect very little from Stabenow. I don't expect too much more from Levin, either. Their typical response to their conservative constituents is "I support the Second Amendment, but..."

It would be interesting as I'd guess the current SCOTUS would reject several of those proposals...yet it's hard to tell what SCOTUS would look like a few years from now when any challenges would eventually get there...

Just emailed my Senators & Representative this letter:

Dear Senator/Representative,

My name is Ole Humpback and I am concerned constituent of yours. I recently was informed that Senator Diane Feinstein intends to introduce a bill in the Senate on Thursday January 25, 2013 in regards to a new version of a so called "assault weapons ban". As an avid outdoorsman and member of both the National Wild Turkey Federation and National Rifle Association, I ask that you oppose this bill.

I have read the proposed ideas for her bill, President Obamas executive orders that are to be considered for the bill, and Govenor Cuomo's recently signed "assault weapons ban" that is being used as a template for Senator Feinstein's bill and find them all to be unconstitutional in regards to the Second Amendment. Also, although I own no firearms which are semi-automatic versions of military firearms, all the firearms I currently own would be considered "assault weapons" if Senator Feinstein's bill, President Obama's proposals, or a Congressionally approved version of Govenor Cuomo's bill is passed. This would turn me, a law abiding citizen who enjoys hunting and competitive shooting sports, into a criminal due to the fact that my hunting & sproting firearms have qualities that are deemed to be what constitutes an "assault weapon" when in fact none of them can even be called an "assault weapon" in even the loosest terms.

Also, for you information, an "assault weapon" is a military weapon that has selective rate of fire capabilities (semi-auto, three round burst, and full auto generally speaking), fires a reduced power cartridge, and is designed mainly for short range combat. These weapons are currently illegal for civilians to own. The firearms that these new bills and proposals seek to ban do not meet this definition for "assault weapon". In fact, these firearms are lawfully bought & used by several thousand people in the US & Indiana every year for competitive shooting events.

With the above said, I again ask that you oppose tomorrow's bill.

Sincerely,

Ole Humpback

Don't expect Scalia to support "military style" weapons for civilians. He laid the groundwork for affirming an "assault weapons" ban -- it's right there in his Heller opinion. Gun owners will rue the day that Scalia arrived at his Heller result by negating the Militia Clause in the 2nd Amendment.

Hopefully we'll finally be able to see the list of weapons she will gracious enough to let us keep should this bill pass.

IMO,it is very unlikely Harry Reid will ever bring this to a vote.

Oh Rly ? :uhoh:

WASHINGTON, Jan 22 (Reuters) - U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a Democrat, signaled on Tuesday that despite earlier indications to the contrary, he may allow a vote on a possible ban on assault weapons.

Yeah, we better get our defensive strategies in order. It looks like King Obama and his court have been working under the radar to destroy our 2nd amendment and other Constitutional rights.

The say one thing, do the opposite administration.

Instead of asking them to barter only a few of our rights away at a time why don't we just fire them?

If the guy who mows my yard decides to mow it a different way I am pretty sure my wife would replace me....I mean him :)

Impeachment is not an unnatainable option. It is within our power to Impeach these people.

Call your reps. Mine won't do anything about it, but I'm going to contact them anyways.

Let them vote. We need to see who's getting fired.

Remember that by the time it gets passed (if it is), goes into effect and a chalenge reaches all the way to the supreme court, obama will likely have made another appointment or two. Considering how close some of the last decisions were, don't count on the court if a conservitive or two decides to retire.

IMO, the crazier the bill the better. It will keep it from passing and easier to strike down if it does.
I fear Reids "compromise" bill a lot more than Feinstien/schmuer ban them all bills.

If you live in a district that is pro 2A or a lost cause already I would also encourage folks to call districts where the rep. is on the fence. Use an address in their district if they ask, they seem to take calls from constituents more seriously.

Better yet, try to wind some of the other side up to support the looniest, most clearly unreasonable even to the completely clueless restrictions you can imagine... False Flag them like they do to us, gaslight 'em and help give 'em a little push so we can show them to the rest of the world as the Batcrap Crazy we know them to be behind their masks.

@Johnny Dollar; Would you feel better if I quoted info wars or prison planet ?

Sit back and do nothing, that's what the .gov wants you to do.

I'm gonna light up the phone today.

It's good to call to oppose any AWB or mag cap limit Bill, but IMHO, these are all red herrings. The real prize the anti-s want is Universal Background checks, because that will open the door to a federal registry of who owns what.....the necessary prelude to confiscation.
I think the AWB and mag cap bans have no hope of passing the House. They are throwing these out to distract us from the main goal: UBC.

I am mentioning that I am against AWB and magcap bans when I start my weekly conversation with my rep and senator aides, but I quickly segue to UBCs and tell them WHY I am against UBCs. Even the pro-2A aides often do not understand the full significance of Universal Background checks, though the GOA and NRA have now got it and are highlighting why UBCs are so bad.

:)

I do not share your optimism. Everyone said that same thing about health care, it passed, they said the court would strike it down, they did not. Do not depend on the system to work, this is about control. They want you disarmed. Beat the senators and congressman with letters and calls; same for the state legislators.

I checked all the A T & T cable channels at 11:30---CNN showed the start of her dribble & then cut it off---I have not found it on any other channel
I guess we will have to read about it
