I recently ran into a volunteer the other day who worked at the Lee Kay range. I told her why I do not patronize the range anymore, and how disappointed I am that a few bad apples who work there have pretty much ruined a nice place to shoot. She told me the down and dirty tales of volunteering at Lee Kay complete with tales of ignorance, arrogance and stubbornness of those mean old range officers. Ok, getting to the point here. She said that new management was coming in soon and that there are going to be some changes. She gave me the contact info for the manager, I thought it would be a good idea for us to write a nice, polite letter explaining why many people choose not to go there anymore. Hopefully, this will cause some changes. I have the guys email address (his name is David Cook), but I kinda feel weird just posting his email address on a forum, so just PM me and I'll shoot it right over to you (pun intended) - seldom

Lee Kay

The last time I was there, the RO'S treated me like a child, spoke down to me and uses profanity in the course of his regular conversations. For the record, at the time I was 50 years old had a friend the same age. I had my own targets which he would not allow me to use. I attempted to explain that I was a NRA and POST certified range officer with 15 years of teaching, I was threatened with being kicked off the range for arguing with him. Because of previous experience here I made it a point to be extra polite, no matter. The only reason I went this time is because Lee Kay is 5 min from my home.
This was over 2 years ago, I have not been back.
Oh ,and he slobbered and spit when he spoke.

Did you read the range rules? All the ones I have been to only allow you to shoot their targets. They have to make money somehow...

They suck. Not only is everything they just said true, they have a rule of one shot per second. The first time I went there, I asked in wide-eyed innocence, why they have a rule like that, and the fogie RSO told me that it is impossible to control a gun if you are shooting faster than that. I have only been there a few times, mostly because friends of mine live closer to them, but I won't go anymore. I'll watch places like this one to hear if they grow up a little.

As for making money, they are a state-run range, I'm not really worried about their profits. They have been there longer than the commercial ranges, and I bet that almost no one will use them anymore, this is why they are (finally) looking to make some changes. We'll see.
