ABC affiliate Channel 7 at 8 PM is showing a program about criminal gangs in the Washington DC agea. Includes the notorious Central American gang MS-13. This is tonight Mar. 18.

Be interesting to see how this is protrayed. Probably will have an anti-fiream slant. And hand wringing over the poor gang members. That is my prediction.

I understand that there are thousands of gang members in the Metro area, many in northen Virginia area.

Henry you are right!

Seriously, i lived in Anacostia Virginia one summer. It is straight up ghetto yet walking distance from DC.

Anacostia is the only place that i have ever been where i never truely felt safe even in the middle of broad day light. The gangs are apparant EVERYWHERE.

Gold and Navy
Red and Blue
are two sets of colors you do not want to wear in the area. I wore a Georgia Tech hat one day out in the community and was hassled a couple of times and decided to take it off.

BlackLX - Anacostia is part of DC (southeast), but you are otherwise correct, it IS a rough place.

NoVa has gang problems, too, but more from hispanics and asians than black drug "crews" like in the District. the Salvadorans (MS-13) seem to be particulalarly vicious. Crime knows no color, but hereabouts underclass minorities seem to be the primary participants.

hey black
you wouldn't happen to drive a ford escort would you? just a guess. I drive one and my friends call it the ghetto cruiser. pretty funny.

I live just south of philadelphia. lots of gang activity. the key is to always look like you belong. now in a predominantly minority inhabited part of town that is hard for me. but just keep walkin and I get no trouble. it will be interesting to see the slant on the story.

I imagine all or most of these ''gangstas'' are packin. I wonder too how many - if any - are in legal possession.

And all the while in DC . ''Honest Joe Sixpack'' is meant to remain unarmed .... and vulnerable. Wonderful balance - NOT!

Very interesting show, even more so that my friend has his unit notified today that they were green lighted also. Made HKHussy my gf watch the Tivo version of it when she got home and was very suprised about it.

Over all it was a good show and was discussing guns in a limited way. It was more of a show for parents, but good. It was interesting also in her reacation when I told her what roads were nearby when they were showing different locations.

I was under the impression that we were in Anacostia Virginia. all the plates were virginia.

no i don't drive an escort but i do drive a ford.

anacostia was not a fun place at all really but i felt the work we did there was well needed!

Black92LX - MIght it have been Alexandria VA? It's just across the Potomac (vs the Anacostia) River, and there are some rough areas there, too, though most of the realty near the water (i.e. Old Town Alexandria) is getting pretty 'gentrified'. A lot of people commute into Anacostia to gov. offices (e.g. the Navy Yard) from VA. Anacostia ain't much fun any time of day, especially if you're 'complexion challenged'.
