It seems to me anytime someone mentions a semi for hunting, the famed AR pops into the conversation. Aren't there any BAR, or Rem 7400 fans out there?
And what about other semi sporters that are not on the AR platform?
Pics are welcome!

I recently bought a 740 thinking I just had to have it. I shot it one day and sold it. Now my svt-40 is just fun on ground squirrels and coyotes.

I sold my 7400 to buy BAR. They both shoot about 1 moa. The BAR is more refined and a better trigger. In retrospect the BAR was not much of an upgrade at a significantly higher price. I miss my 7400 and have a ton of respect for that gun and the 750 that followed it. My only 7400 complaints were the bolt release on the magazine and the trigger. Neither are deal breakers and the trigger can be cleaned up. You can buy 7400's used down here for $300 and up in good shape.

I love the BAR. I have a Grade 2 in 30-06 from 1969 and a new Safari Mk II in .300 Win Mag. Both shoot about 1 MOA. :D

I have a Remington 7400 in 30-06. Don't hunt much anymore but it is a good rifle and served me well. Took plenty of whitetail with it in W. VA. during my hunting days.

I hunted whitetail in southern thickets for many years with a Rem 742 carbine in 30-06. I killed a NICE 8-point last deer season with a Springfield M1A.

Have a 750 Woodmaster in 30-06, 18" barreland a Leupold hog scope/iluminated reticle on it-very happy with it.

Put the Timney trigger kit in it, made for a nice inexpensive trigger.

Gun handles great, 1 1/2" MOA using cheap core-lockt, sharp looking rifle.

I like just about all of the semi autos, and I also have several AR 15's that I use for varmint and 3 gun shooting.

In my opinion, this was the end of history and all since then degenerate.

I'm about 3/4s of the way to sharing much the same sort of opinion when it comes to semi-auto hunting rifles. Or at least ones that you could conceivably (even if not exactly ideally) use to despatch large, meaty critters, until the day someone makes something that will handle at least like a BAR, yet perform at least like an M-14.
