Hey guys,

Trying to track down some replacement springs for my Automag III.
Any ideas where to look or substitute springs that may work? I was thinking a 1911 spring of some weight may be the go for the recoil spring?

Cheers,
Morgo

Check with Numrich Arms, they may have left over originals available, and with Wolff Springs, they may have new springs that will work.

Automag III springs...

I just ordered a couple sets of springs, from Numrich, today. They showed available, on the website. Time will tell.

Previously, I contacted Walter Sanford, as he has the remaining Automag parts, dies, etc. Automag III is not in his inventory. Evidently he is only sourcing the original Automag.

I love my A3. The only major source of irritation, is that it won't kill a Lake City primer. Hopefully, the new springs will remedy this malfunction.

When (if?) you DO get a "new" recoil spring source, maybe get two & send one to Wolff. They ARE the guru mac-daddy of gun spring suppliers. They'll have the equipment to measure the compression, length, etc. etc. & will be in a much better position to suggest an available alternative. I always LIKED the Automag III .30 cal. But the muzzle blast will loosen your teeth! Good Luck!

Got my springs today. I noticed that the recoil springs are smaller diameter & actually fit the guide rod. The old hammer spring was badly bent. The new one is notably stiffer. Will report further after I can get it on-range. FWIW, I did get 2 sets. If this fixes it, I may contact Wolff, to see if they are interested.

auto mag in 30 carbine?! wow didnt know there was a such thing. Ever use it hunting? would it be a decent deer gun? How does it handle compared to the 44 automag?

Success! The new springs made it a whole new animal. No drags, double strikes, duds, stovepipes or stalls. Functioned flawlessly, with Remington, Aguila & Ram ammo. Even let a couple of the range hands shoot it, with favorable reviews.

Get:em while you can.

If you want springs, call Numrich before they run out. Talked to Dave @ Wolff. He has a long list of things to work on & the Automag III isn't very popular, anyhow. Honestly, I was a little offended. Don't imagine I'll be doing any future business with them. Imagine if someone called for 1911 parts & he said, "we don't do those. They're a dime a dozen."
