Recent financial troubles have forced me to sell off every firearm I own save two essential ones--a Colt Police Positive Special and a Mossberg 500 with a slug barrel. Both police surplus, both well worn. Of course I'm upset to lose my nice curio rifles, but I'm finding life with a 12 ga. and a .38 isn't too bad. The .38 works as a ccw piece, albeit not perfectly. And the Mossy works for everything else, again albeit not perfectly. It even does good work cutting down trees 1/3rd at a time, when they're in places where the whole tree can't be felled at once.

I agree you can't go wrong with a .38 and a 12ga, sorry to hear about your situation hope it improves soon.

On the plus side now I get to start all over again :D And I really don't have a good place to keep a collection right now. I've got to keep things limited to what I can carry.

First purchase, another barrel for the Mossy. Kill a couple of more birds with one stone.

Excrement happens. As sad as it is, you're situation is a classic example that firearms are like money in the bank at a higher interest rate. You very likely sold what you had to at a higher price than what you paid for it. Think of how much worse it would be if you hadn't invested in firearms. Most C&R stuff is easy enough to replace when you get sorted out. Just be thankful you can buy from the CMP.

Cos, sorry to hear of your situ. Hard to believe, but it will get better.

As for the arsenal, I'm thinking that you're in better shape than most of us. I started out with a shottie and a .45 Springer. Now I have two Colts 1911s, another shotgun, some rifles.....and I'm looking for an AR15 to celebrate in September.

Am I a more capable warrior for all these weapons? Could I have spent the money more wisely? Where is the training to use the weapons effectively?

One of my favorite pistols is the M686 I get to use at work. I really need one of those at the house, but I have to wonder, again, to what end?

It might seem rough, having to give up the collection, but I honestly believe you are better off for it.

Good luck in your future, Cos. Holler if I can help.

IMHO most non-enthusiasts can make it with a basic battery. Here in Europe, where we are only allowed a certain number of guns, we are even forced to choose. But for somebody who is allowed to carry, I can't get under 4 guns:

*primary (carry) gun- Glock 23
*spare gun of the same type (if primary gets damaged, lost or confiscated due to a self defense case)- Glock 19
*deep cover gun- S&W 442 .38 snubby
*"reach out" gun- M4 Clone
