I'm puytting away a few pistols for the long term, is it bad to keep an unloaded mag in or should I keep one in?

it dosen't matter one way or the other, you can store it with an empty, a full, a round in the chamber, you will be good to go either way.
personally when i deploy, which is the only reason that i store guns for a long period of time normally 12-14 months, i leave an empty in and that is just to keep stuff out of it, ie dust, lint etc, will it acctually keep stuff out of it? no idea but in my mind it does and that is what i roll with.
i recomend that you put a good coat of rust prevenatiev on them the inside a light coat and the outside a heavy coat is what i always do. and don't store them in leather holsters.
