Ok looking for some info on the 22LR.I have been a gun owner since i was 10 (now 42),a lifetime hunter, have served in the military. So i have been around and shot my fair share of weaponry.I am however not a ballistic expert. My question is this: Does anyone have an idea about bullet travel into ballistic gel info .The problem is this, my neighbor who is not only crazy, but dangerous shot my dog for no apparent reason. Now i have to take her to court to reclaim my expenses for vet bills and such.she claims the dog was attacking ( which is bull <removed - Larry> ) but anyway the bullet entered into his rear leg traveled down word and logged in his scrotum ( i know ouch right,i felt so bad for him) so approximately 3-4 inches .Is there anyway to determine a rough distance from dog to gun ?

Distance from Nut to Nuts sounds more like it.

Sounds like the dog was facing away at the time ?

in all honesty....no....

Ballistic gell is FAR from a decent analog for flesh, bone, muscle, ect.....

not even doing out all the math by hand will give you an answer that is even close.....

the only way would be to literally recreate the event....and not only is that not morally/ethically/ legally possible.....but even that will vary ....

that sounds about right to me......

i dont see how someone could shoot a dog in the thigh, and have the bullet end up in the scrotum......if the dog was attacking..........

it sounds like the dog was shot from either the back or the side......either way it clearly wasnt attacking.

Sounds like the dog was running away at the time. I would definitely bring that up in court. Kinda blows her story out of the water. Has she had any recurring brushes with LEO's, maybe you could access public records and find out if there is anything you can bring up in there.

I think someone on here wrote that once you hit something there is no telling where the bullet would wind up. There have been hits on people and the bullet would travel just under the skin and come out in all kinds of locations. Look at JFK.

The angle of the bullet's path may provide a rough indication as to distance - the sharper the downward angle the closer the dog to the shooter and vice versa. The wound path will also indicate the angle of the dog in relation to the shooter (i.e. the dog's "line of attack"). Given your description of the wound I suspect the dog was not directly facing the shooter.

Good luck!

thanks for all the info, yes the place were the dog was and were she was standing was a hill so yes the bullet traveled at a downward angle. She was charged with aggravated animal cruelty ,but pled guilty to animal cruelty. The stupid assistant DA and this small town judge gave her "0" fine for this.they never called us or took a statement from us as she should have had added n to it reckless endangerment as she continued shooting as the dog was running back towards my house and my wife was outside at the time and dove behind our van. They should have at the very least interviewed us before she went to trial to see if they needed to award damages ( vet bills) never happened ,she is friends with many in this small town even though many know she is crazy.so now we have to sek damages in county court which may be better as she doesn't really know anyone down there. She should not be allowed to have a fire arm as far as i'm concerned .the direction she was shooting there are three houses two of which have children that are usually outside but weren't on that day.Unbelievable !!
