I was shooting in a USPSA style match last night. I noticed some people's guns really shoot a big flame out of the barrel. Others don't really have a flame to speak of. I assume this is from there powder choice. Are there some powders out there known for shooting fire? I would like to find one for shooting 9mm 147g bullets. I think I could get some really cool pictures this summer .

to shoot fire, look for a slower burning powder.

the open guys use lots of slow powder to get the compensator to work.

The ambient lighting also matters. In loads for which I can't see any flash whatsoever in the sunlight, the same load at twilight may give an impressive flash.

Like Accurate #7 would that be slow enough.

Twilight is what I was thinking for picture taking.

Did someone say muzzle flash?

I have found 2400 in a 44mag has a bit of flash.

Every time I see your thread title I think of flames painted on the barrel like on a hot rod.

I did shoot a deringer a friend had. between the grip & trigger pull I couldn't do much. The thing would blind me with the muzzle flash so bad I couldn't tell where I was hitting. By the time I could see again I had forgotten where the old holes were.

How about muzzle flash for us non-reloaders? Anyone ever decide to test and see what factory loaded ammo generates the biggest flash in a given gun?
