I have a JCHiggins model 50 .270 cal rifle. In the process of putting a scope on it. It is sold by SEARS, but manufactured by FN with a Mouser 98 action. According to all the info I can find(including Brownells and Weavers sites) I am to use a weaver #46 front and #45 rear base. Well, the #46 fits fine in the front and in the rear. The #45 is the right height, but the mounting holes are too close together. I went to a shop today and the closest I could find was a #55 base. Anyone know where I can find the correct rear base for my rifle? Needs to be the same mounting hole spacing as a #46, but the height of a #45. The #55 is a hair too short.

Great info. Wonder why I didn't find that. So can anyone tell me what I might need to do to shim my mount base? There are no gunsmiths where I live.(small community on an island 1.5 hours by jet from the closest city)

I wonder why they don't bother to make the right base for a fairly common action. There are still a lot of FN sporters out there under various names.
Anyhoo, Sinclair sells shim sets, if your screw spacing is in the covered range.

Brownells has what looks like the same item.

Midway has some by Burris, look like plastic instead of metal.
