Beavertail for RIA

The King's #203 dropin worked fine on mine, but I traded off my RIA and my King's safety is for sale here.

Wilson Combat produces an excellent 'drop in' beavertail for guns that do not have the 'button butchering' on the back.
they do require a very small amount of hand fitting, but almost all safeties do and they are the best for the application desired.

I have these on an Colt Officer's ACP, Colt Commander 1991A1, and a Para P13. They are the best "drop-in" solution I've seen. Last time I had a proper beavertail grip safety installed, it cost me $150. It was masterfully done but I really wish I'd gotten the Wilson part to begin with. Now as far as fitting, the Para dropped right in and functions perfectly. The other 2 required very light fitting (a friend is a gunsmith and took care of this - said he spent about 20 minutes total on both guns).

Basically, I think that the drop-in beavertails are useful for running the gun to see if it needs tweaking before you spend the time and money to have a "real" beavertail fitted to the gun. I am one of those people that simply can't shoot a 1911 with a milspec grip safety more than seven times without bleeding.

Go with the Wilson, but phone them, don't order off the website. There's nothing wrong with the website, but the guy I talked to at Wilson... Matt, I think, was real friendly and knowledgeable. He was full of good sound advice, excellent product knowledge, and a few rather amusing anecdotes about Wilson guns and parts.

I put a Wilson Combat drop-in in my RIA and it actually didn't need any hand-fitting at all. It was truely "drop-in", but don't expect the same thing to happen for you. I also put one in my Colt Officers ACP and it took a while, and a bit of filing to get it to work correctly (I had to practically strip the gun down to only the beavertail and trigger installed in the frame to make sure the mating surfaces were matchign up correctly). I love this beavertail in both of my guns and didn't even consider anything but a "drop-in", as I don't believe in hacking up my frames. BTW, I bought mine from www.midwayusa.com. Brownell's usually has them in stock, also (www.brownells.com).
