So I was looking up another matter on accuracy in research and saw a reference to Bellesiles and I wondered what had become of the man. A quick search turned up a Wiki page that documented more of the disgrace than I had actually remembered. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_A._Bellesiles

The guy certainly appeared to have screwed up by the numbers and if not intentional, then certainly to a point of not being professional. His "mistakes" were severe, to say the least.

What struck me as surprising was that he had found new life in academia after his highly public and disgraceful fall from Emory. His questionable book has been republished by a fairly no-name press and he now in fact, is back to teaching at another university and is publishing anew. Aside from his republished book, he apparently is avoiding the gun issue.

College was certainly interesting. I met some of the smartest people I've ever had the pleasure to meet and I've met complete imbeciles. It doesn't come as a surprise he is teaching again.

I liked the comments section as well. Some of the comments were really spot on. I realize a lot of people here have a strong dislike for academics in general, but a lot of those spot on comments were made by academics.

You know, it had been my experience that academia wasn't kind to those who had been so publically discredited. Such hires comes with considerable liability at multiple levels.
