Looking to add a "economy" 12g over/under to the arsenal for some skeet/hunting applications and was considering either ther SPR310 or STF 3000 (the STF 3000 is $20 more); basically a stoeger condor. Both I believe are 28" barrel, SST, Ejectors, nickel plated receiver, vented rib. Anybody have any insight on which one is the best bet ? Thanks.

Neither.

Shop around for a good used SKB (aka Weatherby or Ithaca SKB), Browning, Beretta, Winchester. Buy what fits.

Check CDNN for a Winchester Select or Weatherby Orion (SKB) on clearance for under a grand.

A few hundred more bucks, and an order of magnitude better gun. Money spent on an "economy" O/U is money you'll soon wish you had back to spend on a truly economical, quality O/U.

I bought a Stoeger Competition combo and basically had to fix the FTF issue myself. Benelli service was less than stellar. I'd skip the "cheap" O/U and pick up an 1100 or spend the $$ for a good B' brand O/U.

With the help of the fellow members of THR, I have come to the conclusion that when dealing with o/u's reliable and economy dont go together. Finding a used well known brand is probabbly your best bet.

I've always wondered about that, you know. Why is it that you can get a great pump action, or even autoloader for $500, and you (generally) can't get a good O/U for under $1000.

The O/Us should be simpler to manufacture. Is it some kind of unwritten law or commandment?

'Thou shalt not make an affordable, reliable O/U.'

Thanks everyone for the advice !! I defineatly don't want to buy a piece of junk. Usually I try to get the best firearm for the $; and it seems like these (2) are not worth the $. Thanks again...I will be looking for a decent used midrange O/U.

Find a stevens 311 or an old Ithaca either a NID or and SKB. These are the ticket in low priced doubles. They new ones are for the landfills.

They are SxSs though with double triggers as are my favorites. If you have your heart set on a quality O/U with SST for cheap you may have to spend around 600. But you seem to have a good idea of what everyone thinks about Baikals and Condors.
