Hello,
I am new to this site so please bear with me. I purchased a HK P 30 for my wife for Christmas. She is replacing a Beretta 92FS Custom Carry because it just dosen't fit her. That's the reason it has less than 50 rounds thru it. I want her to go shooting with me and she ends up shooting my XD40 all the time. I know this model Beretta is no longer made and is way cooler looking than a standard one so I took it the the place I bought it to get a trade estimate on it. All but one of the six guys there said they have never seen one of these. Only the manager knew of the gun. He asked if the gun was even fired!!! He checked the gun out and raved at how good the condition was. He then went back to his files and found the origional sales record of the gun. I paid $550.00 for it several years ago. He then proceeded to insult me with an offer of $250.00 for the gun.:what::fire::cuss:Now guys, I'm no rocket scientist but if they no longer make the firearm, and it is in such great condition, shoulden't I have gotten at least about what I paid for it???:banghead: I understand it is a buisness but to insult me like that caused him to loose a sale on a very expensive firearm. Your opinons will be greatly appreciated. I may just keep it for a while. It don't eat anything. Thanks for any advise and have a MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!:neener: I know my wife will.
P.S. As you can see I'm not very politically correct so if you don't like what you read in the few lines DON'T READ IT AGAIN:evil:

Maybe they no longer make it because it wasn't very popular (evident by the fact no one there has heard of it). In such a case, it will be very hard to sell, especially at such a high price. You can get a brand new Glock 19 or 26, S&W M&P, or Springfield XD for well under $550 and those are popular, concealable guns. The 92 series, in pretty much all versions, are pretty thick, heavy guns.

Regardless, it is also a USED gun, no matter how shiny it is. I'm not paying full (new) price for a used gun.

What state are you in? How much do you want for it? Try posting it in the classifieds here, maybe a Beretta collector would be interested.

If you bought it new...how could they possibly offer what you paid for it now that it is used (even if it was still new) and make any money to pay their bills? $250 might be a little low...but if it doesn't sell, then it's $250 too much for them, that's their risk. You'll get more selling it to a private party, same as a car.

I checked some gun auction sites for your gun and there is no listing for a Beretta 92FS Custom Carry. That means there is no primary market, and also no secondary market either.

In light that there is an absence of markets, it's basically up to you and the buyer, in this case the gun dept manager.

I suggest, if you are interested in getting additional information or selling the gun, you check some of the auction sites such as Auction Arms or guns america.

Best of luck

Even though your Beretta isn't a "stock" M92 it's still a M92. Many LE Agencies are trading in their M92's and M96 for one of the Glock models chambered in .45 GAP. I know several dealers who won't even make an offer on a Beretta M92/96 because they can get as many as they want for under $200.

I know you don't want to hear this but your pistol isn't worth more than $250 if that.

Welcome to the world of retail guns. For whatever reason, guns are a terrible investment. You've just learned why. Even astute collectors can make a better return on their $$ if they stayed in the traditional investment markets.

You paid full retail. And $550 for that weapon is full retail. The last time I priced the Baretta 92 series, about six months ago, they were selling new for $419 (CDNN).

You can get more than $250 if you sell it over the net, but you're not going to get what you paid. Maybe $350.

But you're like the rest of us. When it comes to guns we do our part for the economy, viz, buy high and sell low. If you're looking for an investment, buy AT&T.

Guys,
I was just trying to vent a little Geeeeese. I understand the market is a lot like the auto industry. I've been buying and using firearms for 40 + years. If the guy would have offered the 350.00 I would have taken him up on it but thats besides the point. Not a very friendly web site IMO.
THANKS FOR THE INPUT.

The sad part isn't that he offered you $250, its that he would turn around and sell it for $500! :cuss:
The local gander mountain currently has a used Taurus PT92 in the counter for $440! A month ago, another store was selling new stainless PT92's for $379!
They have the right to charge whatever they want, but they're screwing the guy who sold it and they're screwing the guy who buys it without knowing any better.
I wouldn't get so pissed about it, but as I walked around I overhead a clerk assuring a guy that guns were a good investment and that all guns appreciated in value so that they would be worth at least their purchase price if you ever wanted to sell it :cuss:

Redneck,
That was exactly my point:banghead: I saw used 92s in their own case with severe holster wear selling for over $400.00. I guess it was reverse sticker shock.:what: Oh well. Lesson learned. I ended up getting the HK P 30 for $770.00 on line shipping included. That in itself saved me well over $100.00 from buying it from him. Maybe I'll test the waters to see if a Beretta collector might be interested in it.
Thanks and Merry Christmas

Beretta 92's

I've got 2 Berettas and one is a 92FS. Never heard of a Custom Carry,so how are they different from a standard one??

I bought both of mine used from a dealer, probably paid more than I should have, but I hope I don't have to sell them.

I carry one 24/7/365, unless I'm in the shower, or if someone shows up while I'm working.

One stays in a locked box in my truck just in case a SHTF "thing' happens, two is better than one!! if you are trying to get home to get the real "toys"!!

If I had extra $$$, I'd get me another one, can't have tooo many "toys" that are all alike---same cartridge, same mags, same parts.

just my 2 cents UJ

Just read 2 posts from different people over at www.berettaforum.net who paid $425 for a Custom Carry and $450 for a Custom Carry II (Inox). Both guns were used and purchased within the last month. IIRC, these guns were Beretta 92 type L compacts. They're 12 or 13 round cut down versions of the full sized guns. Along with a barrel that much closer to flush fitting compared to the standard guns. Quite a few people over on the Beretta forum are searching them out.

Urbana John,
The custom Carry is cool looking with the silver lettering on the slide on both sides. I sent you an email with some pics. Hope you get it.
Thanks

Southpaw,
I was just over there and I may post a listing on their classified section. This one came with 2 10 round clips. I don't know if it is a compact version because I only own this one. There is no type L markings on it that I can find either on the gun or the box. I really appreciate all the help and input you guys have given me. I just can't wait to get my wifes new HK P30 in so we can do some hole punching with it.

Keep the Beretta.

Wow, couple points of encouragement..
--dealers seem to use the discontinued line to their advantage. If they're selling the gun and it's no longer made then they charge more for it telling you it's no longer made therefore a rare gem. When you try to sell them one it's "discontinued" therefore not worth a dime. Pay no attention to their insulting low-ball offer, they are out to make money off you, plain and simple.
--check out other sites like Gunbroker and the Beretta forums to see what those looking for are actually paying when they can track one down. I'll bet a rare one like that will be just as desirable to a Beretta fan as a Border Marshall, an Elite, or even an Inox G model (long shot). Also another thing is that you don't see the Custom Carry on auction sites because it's just plain rare and extremely hard to find. All the better for you.
--Yeah an XD, Glock, or whatever are cheaper; but you can find those ANYWHERE for the same price anyday of the week. Try finding your Beretta again six weeks down the road when seller's remorse hits you like a brickhouse and all you see in stores are Glocks and cookie cutter lookalikes.

Sorry for the rant....

Thanks again guys for the encouraging words. I have been on a Beretta sight and spoke with a couple of the guys over there. I will be in no hurry to "dump" this firearm. Heck, I might even look at one of the Storm carbines.
Thanks again and have a happy New Year!!!!

Remember, from the dealer's POV, he's gonna have to turn around & sell that pistol & potentially warranty a problem a new owner might encounter. If he buys it for $250, has it cleaned & prep'd for sale, he could probably sell it for $325-ish so it wouldn't sit around getting dusty

Not a very friendly web site IMO.

Silly me. You asked for my/our opinion. I/we assumed you wanted our opinion, when in fact you wanted a lie.

Ok. Yes, your gun has tripled in value and do not sell it until you're offered at least that. You have chosen a rare specimen that, should you not find a buyer, will doubtless wind up in the Smithsonian.

Assuming your pistol is in excellent condition, you should get $400.00 or so for it with no trouble. A Beretta collector might pay more but it's still a used gun. In the end, my guess is that you will end up regretting selling this pistol if you do.

For that model I would pay $400 to $450 without batting an eye...no hesitation at all if like new. Saw one once..went to the ATM 1 block away and by the time I got back someone else was paying for it. Because of this I (seriously) have the absolute extreme break glass in case of emergency too good of a deal to pass up firearm ONLY credit card...with me at all times. Lesson learned.

Wrong Wrong Wrong Info Guys/gals Rare Gun

I THOUGHT THE SAME THING ANOTHER MILLION DOLLER GUN wisher TILL I SAW WHAT HE WROTE.IT IS VERY VERY VERY RARE!!!!!

That is one of the rarest 92s ever made(REALLY 92-96-L-SUBCOMPACT-SPECIAL EDITION FULLY LOADED HANDMADE CUSTOM SHOP) and shortest numbers that you bought USED.Yes you bought it used even if it were in new condition. They stay mint due to the special coating also. That gun was only made for lets say the federal law enforcelment type folks. Not the FBI either. The ones you do not talk about. They had a simular model out a couple years ago looks like it but big but it was a standard size. You gave a piece of information that tells me what you have.To verify this if you look close one side says custom carry and the oposing side looks the same but it is not!!!!!If you look close the oposing side says custom carry like the other then it says in tiny letters compact L 92/96 9mm para etc.

What you have is what most would have considered a pre subcompact 96 frame custom worked to hold a higher +P++ type round that is also rare but is the standard 9mm size so you can run regular 9mms through it as most held 2 different type clips(loads). Here is your rarities of the gun.It will handle a very very very high grain and also is capable of the G17s maritime solution but better and that beretta really works compaired to the glocks 11 ft underwater with a range round. If you look coser the letters that are white are really silver but very light.Looks white. You mentioned something that made me understand what you had. There is a almost full sized custom carry 92fs stamped both sides but not the "L" subcompact.

Your gun you do not want to sell or if you do sell it to me I am a fool you will never find another and if you do and somebody is stupid enough to sell it to you for under 2 grand for like $400 or even $500 jump on it fast. You can also change calibers with that model-its all custom shop work hand done-you could shoot 100 rounds through it and the barrel will still be cold to the touch-it shoots underwater 27ft and also no breach out of the water so you can stand right up and shoot no delay that is why they have the removal of the ambi safty and warning marker is slimmed and trimmed custom cut compaired to a regular non ambi warning marker that is larger in the base model-it has an internal adjustable trigger.2 stage if you want.Wonder why they have that optionin it and not turned on HMMMMMMMM.That also will direct fit the palm reader that everyone needs to fool with to get it to work on the 92f as it was made and designed for your gun.

Did you get the custom 96 custom lock case for it? Only made 1 time for that model. It is a 96 frame customised to a 9mm.Ummmm how to say this the stock beretta 9mm barrell fits right in and has a perfect pertrusion for say the special people with permits that need special objects and gizmos at the end of the barrel. Those barrels usually dissapear or both dissapear by gov armery guys making custom entry short rifles so check your numbers and make sure they match (I highly doubt they will) and if so you have a home run also a handfull of gunbrokers in the past got the lowers after the barrels were stripped and just bought a barrel from beretta not knowing what they had and beretta is bound not to tell them.I can not say too much about them but that is one of the lowest production ever made for special people whom still use them over the 40cal and 45 cal.

The first 3 digets are acording the real serial number run of whatever they were on and the next number is the number of the gun either 1 or 2 diget and the last will be 00 or a zero as less then 100 were ever made. We have spoken of it and think it is about a total of maybe 50 units or less were ever made.Light gun also for a 92 but you can still smash somthing with it.Not sure how many spooks got them and have them but I have seen 1 and know what they are.Wish I had one extreemly bad. That is 4 models placed into 1 handmade and all the trimmings.Pull the barrel and look underneath and if the serial numbers are there matching you have the perfect 9mm.Actually you have a perfect gun made for all situations and the kit was extreeme the accesorys it had with it for the spook.

If you sold it and see another that is more in white and regular size it is worth about $400 to $450 to a fair collector/dealer as dealers can get around $700 for them due to rarity of just the custom carry words less then 200 were ever made standard sized or sub but what you have is a different story all together !!!!!!very rare and very desired by those who know.Id go a grand fast if your still wanting to sell it wether the barrel is stock or not. That is a rare find what you have inevetentlydescribed.

Now like the other member I have seen the coplete white ones that are not a 96 and not L and they are also very rare and will be and are a great investment piece and built very well.Super nice 92fs custom carrys and very rare but not what you have. What you described however your letters are actually more silver if you look closer and that gun after time will be priceless or is now to those whim know it.It is a tack hammer and uses an array of amunition.Shoots underwater and quick caliber change etc.NOTE: even though the 92 clips will fit and hang out they do not reach the top so do not think they will still work. You will get a bad feed.unfortunatly you can not get clips other then what you get with it or what a smith makes for you.Otherwise the thing operated like an G18 to the correct people with the correct parts and the correct stamp and badge to have them.

They are in service right now and it is as old as your reciept within a few months and when they go out of service then you will find them in your books and so on.If you look now they are not listed at all nor is any parts avalable.Beretta wont even acknowledge that paticular one it will acnowledge the custom carry regular 92fs but wont offer aprts for it also nor price range.Brad from blue books can not even price either of the units they are so rare.I know a few stupidly sold for the $400 standard 92 price and before I knew the history for fact thats all I would have paid.$400 and sold it for $600 or $700 to a collector. The reason the custom carry 92fs is limited is for reasons to cover the first model you have I think.Like I said Ill give you a grand in a heartbeat or any glock or XD or Wather PPK or whatever new gun she wants for it on the market.A nice one new in the box.Ill give you a limited engraved desert eagle in a showcase for the thing if you want never shot books at $1700.

I see the storys come and go and have been dealing guns for 40 years now and father befor father and so on.I collect berettas and glocks and rare what I call "my generation guns"guns with stamps and features. That si the rarest of them all and like the guy with the holding the $400 credit card to get one I ahve a grand hidden around my car and me at all times I travel just incase I run into one.so many dealers are sick of me asking f they have seen one.I will even go for the standard edition just marked custom carry in subcompact form but I really want what you have. That was berettas version of the glock 18 with a whole mess of custom upgrades all handmade.every bit.Uncle same paid several thousand per gun for them.

I run into the same thing over and over just missed the deal like the guy did who went to get the money. If you see one of those buy it up they are great guns and great investments and built a heck of alot better then the 92fs or m9.The thing is to find one.You wont and if you do you will just miss it.Gun has been out a few years now and is not even in the books it is so rare.

I thought the same thing standard beretta they engraved like my deserts or what ever.Boy was I so wrong.Pm me Ill buy it anytime you want to let it go stock barrel or not.I want it for investment and use.Man I wish I could fine one,

Whoever said they checked the auction sites didn't look hard enough...granted there are a few different models of Beretta Custom Carry's but one is on Gunbroker right now at $455 with 2 days to go and over 20 bids already. One sold in May for $500 and another in April for $465.

It's a great gun, especially if CCII and stated as Type M, model L

Custom Carry

I bought mine used for 300 bucks from a friend. I sold it for 450, I wish i never sold it. Its perfect for carry, the barrel is about 4 1/4 , and a full size mag sticks out about a finger width. Dont sell this gun! you will regret it as soon as you do the paperwork. They are hard to come by!
