I like older Colts, but have not owned a newer one. Those I know who have them have found the quality somewhat mixed.
I have a Springfield TRP. It had a bad safety, returned to the factory for repair. They tried to tighten it to get the accuracy better, but the frame-slide fit was loose within a hundred rounds. I spent $$$ for parts and finally got a decent trigger after removing the ISL and replacing all of the mainspring/trigger system. It finally grouped at about 2" at 25 yrds. EXCEPT FOR THE CONSISTENT SINGLE SHOT FLYER! It is in a shop on consignment to be sold.
I have worked on a few Kimbers for someone who really loves them. They all would not feed hollow points and the triggers were just so so. I fixed the feed problems, but he did not want to spend the $200-300 to fix the triggers.
I am going to vote with my dollars and get a Les Baer. By the time you get one of the others and get it running good, you might be up to the Baer/Brown/Wilson level anyway.
I want all of my firearms capable of being my primary defense weapon. I don't care if they are in the safe or not. The must be capable, or I don't want to own them.
Save up and get a real blaster. You won't regret it.
