I have tried winchester white box HP and gold dot ammo, both have a 50% chance of jamming when pulling slide back to load first bullet....I have tried different mags, different rounds, and even had STI polish the ramp...anything else left to try? Its looking like powrball ammo is all I have left besides fmj

Try some Remington HP ammo. Its always fed the best in any of my guns, either the old JHP's or the Golden Sabers.

Look for a bullet with a rounded nose profile and a narrow cavity that does not have sharp edges. The ones mentioned by Steve C are two such loads. Winchester 185-gr. Silvertip and the Federal 230-gr. "Classic" also shot well in mine.

go to corbons website they have some hollow oints that a "plugged with a polymer ball

I would get rid of the handgun.

Far too many companies are jumping on the 1911 popularity bandwagon and not all of them are paying enough attention to the product.

I suspect that more than a few are simply assembly houses, buying parts in thousand count boxes from various, low cost, off-shore suppliers, and slapping them together on a warehouse bench.

A properly constructed 1911 will feed any style of commercial bullet on the market today. I know all of mine will.

Don't accept mediocrity.

I kind of agree with mjrodney and with chieftain.

My high-end and low-end 1911's all feed reliably.

I prefer JHP's that have a cone shape though.

Look at Buffalo Bore FMJ. They make a 230gr load at 1030 fps. It isn't HP, but the great thing about the .45 is that it doesn't really have to expand.

Are you letting the slide go forward full force, or are you trying to ease it down? If it's the latter, stop doing that.

Otherwise, I'm gonna have to go with mjrodney on this one. I wouldn't stake my life on such a finicky gun.

letting the slide go full force, I tried doing it slow a few times during troubleshooting but it didnt make much sense. I have thought about buying a more conical shaped HP but its not cheap buying non returnable ammo that doesnt work.
