Best frangible bullet for the .22-250?

Guys i will be loading .22-250's for my dad mostly for coyotes and was wondering what frangible worked best at .22-250 velocities. I was looking at the barnes varmint grenade the supposadly stay together at high velocities what are your experiences?

Nosler - competion. They stay together at speed. Run them in the 3600 fps in my 223 AI.

What's your twist? You might think about 55 grain Sierra Blitzkings. Good for coyotes. Whatever the weight, I know of several guys that shoot the Sierra's as well as Hornady VMaxs in 22-250s, usually in 50g for prarie dogs. They just could not get the same accuracy with the Barnes VGs nor could they get acceptable accuracy. I'm in the process of working up a load for the 53g Barnes TSX FBs. They're much more expensive than the Grenades but we're trying to shoot in newly lead bullet restricted areas. Should know more soon.

50 or 55 v-max's are what i like.

I would lean towards the sierra blitzkings. Nothing against the others, I just reload alot more sierras.

My dad has been shooting V-max in his .22-250 at 50 grains.

Good bang for buck.

A recent mag. article in reloader mag had a picture of a grape exploding when hit with a Varmint grenade. The inside of the bullet is skored to promote destruction.

I bought Nosler Ballistic tips for my 7mm and brother's .270. But I wouldn't hesitate with the Hornady's.

Either 55 or 60 grain Hornady V-Max or Nosler Ballistic-Tips will do one heck of a nice job on coyotes.

I have gotten exceptional accuracy out of every rifle I have shot them in.

Never had a coyote complain so far either!
They are DRT before they hit the ground!

I have just completed a trade for a Sauer 202 22-250 and am loading 50 gr Nosler ballistic tips. My load shoots basically one hole at 100 yards, and I killed a deer a few days ago with only a small entrance and no exit. Bang! Flop!

It should fragment in a coyote.

My neighbor shot 21 deer last summer (crop damage permits) with the Hornady 55gr. V-max and none of them moved 10ft. All shots were in the head or high in the neck and typical distance was 150-225yds.
He also shot two coyotes at about 125-150yds. that went immediately to Paradise.

Reload the 40 gr. V-Max bullets. They will litterally blow up upon impact of anything. I shoot gronud hogs with them and very seldem do they make an exit wound. The attached file is a 50. gr V-Max through ballistics Gellitan. It started to expand just .25" into the gell and traveled 18.5" until it stopped, And this is a 50 gr. not 40. 40r. bullets will epand more rapidly and will not travel as far into the gell. I've never had a problem with richochets either. They blow up as soon as they hit the dirt, or prefferably a ground hog .

V-Max bullets. These rounds produce 5 shot 1 hole groups at 100 yards. 200 yds is the size of a dime, 300 nickel, and 400 idk, but i take Head shots on ground hogs at 400-450 yrds effortlessly

I would stay with the 55 - 60 grain range of bullets.
40 grain bullets may blow up too easily on shoulder shots on coyotes.

The heavier bullets will also provide superior wind resistance at long range.

What was the OAL you used? 2.402?

What velocity did you get? 3800 fps?

The 40s are devastating on small game for sure... And i cant say about the heavier Vmaxs with shoulder shots but i took 31 yotes in the last 4 weeks with the 40gr Vmax over 26.5gr of Varget (about 3200fps) all head shots and none took a step after being hit... The entry side of the head was pretty much gone with about 1" or so penetration into the brain then nothing... You could see metalic object particles against the internal tissue in the wound where the bullet fragmented... Very very nasty bullet...
95% of my predator/varmint shots will be around 225 and under where i am at... I just recently secured hunting access to a farm where long shots are possible.. Upwards of 700yds under the right locations of myself and intended target so i will have to rethink my zero on my rifle... Currently it is zeroed at 50yds with a ballistics of something like this
50 - 0 - 2947
100 - +.52 - 2706
150 - -.12 - 2477
200 - -2.14 - 2261

Jumping up to a 55 tip with the same 50yd zero and 3200 fps
50 - 0 -3001
100 - +.55 - 2809
150 - +.02 - 2624
200 - -1.75 - 2446

So the heavier tip will keep speed longer and have better ballistic trajectory and better penetration over longer distances..

There is a 2 inch difference at 300 yds with the 40 being 11.48 low and the 55 being 9.70

Yeah "good" areas but a few different packs of yotes around due to farming... Lots of chickens and calves and pigs and such to sneak in and snag... Farmers LOVE me cause i like to "target" practice and dont mind if the target is moving or not ... They get the hides to turn in for the money to help pay for their losses and it dont cost me a thing to use their property and all i am out is ammo and a little gas (14 miles 1 way to the farms)... Its abotu the same as a trip to my local range... Only better... If i get some 55s or 60s Vmaxs in and loaded before i wipe all the yotes out or they get smart ill report on the damage they do.. Ill take pics if they aint too graphic... But they want me to work on them as much as i can...
