1215161910a-1.jpg Best deal I ever got was on this near mint 1970's ('79 I believe) Colt Det Spec.
I paid $201.00 cash to a guy who inherited it whose wife didn't wan't a gun in the house.
I explained a lil bit about their potential value but that basically $200 cash was what I had on hand at the moment and he said that it was"more than fair". It was a happy day for me, especially when I wen't home and shot it, lol. (smoooooth)
Ironically a few years back I bought it's lightweight alloy brother Mr. Colt Cobra for $200 as well. It's not as mint as the detective but it's holster rash gives it a certain "distinguished" look to it.....

So folks, what are the best deals you'd care to share?

Jaquas showed their inventory online 10 years ago - while browsing they showed a FN 49 in 30-06 for $225.

Called and they put it on hold - next day I am the proud owner (salesman indicated there were about 5 people on the waiting list)

Great fun gun - sold to get a M1a - still wish I could of kept both. The FN 49 is one of the last classically built battle rifles.

About 5 years ago I bought a Mint 60's vintage 870 wing master 12 ga. at a pawn shop for $194 out the door. They had it labeled as a 870 express :)

Well, Les gave me that Engraved Presentation Premier II just to the left, there, as a retirement present. I don't think I'll ever get a better deal than that.

But I'm pretty sure the OP means guns that you actually bought with your own money and got a good deal on. So here's mine That C-96 was never fired after proof testing. 99+% .With matching stock.

Paid $2000. Worth a bit more than that......

Very nice. Those belong in the "sexiest gun" thread. Have you fired either?

I bought an 870 20ga wingwaster for $200 earlier this year and just flipped it to a local shop for what I paid, not sure if it was vintage but in any case it $ound$ like I made a mistake.
I dont bird hunt and only bought it on an impulse from a friend. I take it they go for good money?

7 years ago I had a buddy who was a mechanic. He knew I was into guns and needed some cash so he offered me a Kimber Gold Combat for what he had in it. He said he fixed a guy's car and he was paid with the Kimber. He valued the work at $600 so he told me that he would take $600. I told him "no, not a penny less than $800" was what I'd pay. It was 98%+ and came with the original box. I was happy and he was happy. Never a failure in thousands of rounds and still looks great. (picture taken a few months ago)

Found a custom made 50 cal flintlock rifle with great custom woodworking for $450 at a show. The guy lowered it to $400 for me. It was the 2nd flintlock I ever bought, the first at the same show. I was a newbie.

I shared photos on a couple of traditional black powder discussion lists and they said it was worth ~$2500. This was a few years ago.

Bought a Remington 700 PSS .308 heavy barrel, matte finish with a Leupold Varix iii 4.5-14 40mm on top. Paired up with a Colt King Cobra 6 in barrel bright stainless both in mint condition for $1300 bucks from a coworker who wanted to go to Hawaii.

About 7 years ago I bought a Steyr MIII Professional in 25-06 for $350 from a co-worker.

Don't think I'll ever stumble upon a deal like that again.

On New Year’s Eve 2013 a guy posted an ad to sell 3 S&W revolvers. I called him within 10 minutes of his posting the ad and told him I was interested in the model 13-2, but bring all 3 so I could see them. We met a half hour later. I bought the model 13-2 (3”, round butt in 90%+ condition) and a model 37 no dash (In like new condition) for $700. I wasn’t interested in the 3rd gun. As I was leaving, he said he almost forgot, but he brought another gun that wasn’t in the ad. Pulled out a like new model 36-1 and said I could have it for $200. I just wish I could run into deals like that more often.

Best deal on a complete gun was the auction I ever won, in 2006. I had lost about a half dozen auctions by a couple of dollars before that. There was a great looking Dan Wesson 715 6" VH gun, in the original box, with the paperwork, wrench, 3 grips: Stock, Pachymar rubber, and a custom finger grooved one, and some spare parts. Nobody bid on it, except me for most of the auction, and then another person put a bid in at the last second, but I got it for $269.00, about $100-150 less than what appeared to be guns alone of similar condition went for a day or two before. I thought I had missed something, and I worried until the FFL called me when it came in and said, "It looks really good!". It was, and other than a scratch on the barrel shroud, and still is, in near mint condition. It will be the last gun I ever sell.

Best deal ever was when a friend's uncle closed up his gun shop when he was diagnosed with lung cancer. and we went down to look over what he had left. I asked him if he had any Dan Wesson stuff and he tossed a box onto the kitchen counter and said, "Fifty bucks, and it's yours!". I picked it up and heard some heavy stuff clanking in there and gave him $50(he donated all the cash we gave him to a local dog rescue place)as fast as I could. I opened it up after I left and there were more than enough parts to build a complete blue 15-2 inside, along with a bunch of barrel tubes and both blued and stainless shrouds. I sold most of the barrels and parts off and kept the gun I put together for several years before I sold it, too. I probably made close to $2000 off that $50 box.

I don't know what Browning A5's were selling for back in the early 60's , but I think my dad got a good deal on one . He saw a guy he knew walking up the street where he worked , carrying the Browning and asked him where he was going with that shotgun . He said to the pawn shop . My dad asked how much he wanted for it and he said $75 dollars . My dad said , you don't need to walk too the pawn shop and gave him $75 dollars for it . I got the better deal though , my dad gave me the shotgun when I was about 13 and it is still my favorite shotgun . It's a 12ga. , 28" , 2 3/4 , full choke , made in 1958 .

I remember back in 1976 I got a 16ga Winchester Model 12 with a case and 5 boxes of shells for $65
In 2014 I bought a 20ga Winchester Model 12 with solid ribbed barrel for $400
Last year I bought a Winchester Model 75 in great condition for $225

Kimber G82 .22 target rifle NEW in sealed packaging for $425 from the CMP couple years ago.
Should have bought more then one !!

S&W 29, 8 3/8 nickel, with three T's, Marlin 60 NIB for $300.

Traded the S&W for a hand built Garand. All new parts except for the receiver, stock and barrel.

I bought a nearly new XDm .40 when they first came out for $300, then I traded it for a W German P220. :)

Bought a very nice S&W 25-2 off GunBroker for $600 to, that's not bad.

My buddy who wasn't even into guns at the time got a Polish Radom for $150. He sold it for $2500 to some guy all the way out in california. I probably would have kept it. I did get a chance to shoot it however, very accurate. Guy he got it from was not aware of what he had.....

Hmm... my grand slam was when I acquired a pair of Winchesters for $350. A fellow came in the shop I was working at. He had a pump action, take-down .22 WRF; and a rifle length, prewar Model 94 which was chamberd 30 W.C.F. The guns had been bought by him as wall hangers in the 60s and his new wife didn't care for them. The 94 was worth about 300 bucks by itself and I'd never seen a Winchester gallery gun up close, so didn't have a clue to its value.

At any rate I'm now familiar with the 1890 and traded off the cowboy gun for a Detective Special plus cash. ;) I still get a warm feeling thinking about it. :) :) :)

I once bought a 1911, S&W M64, a Charter Undercover and 4 lesser guns for $300.

S&W 29-2 8 3/8 nickel in the original box, all accessories, a shoulder holster, and a box of ammo. $350.
Remington 541X target .22 with peep sights and front and rear inserts, originally from CMP. $100.
M1 Garand, all new wood, arsenal overhauled. $200
S&W 686, NIB, $350.

I wonder what we'll look back on as outrageous good deals in 20 years...

Co-worker had a flawless Yugo M48 8 mm Mauser I always admired. When I was off work one day last year he called me and said he was moving back to Houston and would I be interested in buying it for $300. Not a great deal but not that bad. He said he would be right over. Told him I had $180 in cash but couldn't get to the bank until the next day for the remainder as I was watching one of the grand kids until about 8 PM. He said no problem as he wasn't leaving until the next day. Came by dropped off the rifle and 80 rds of ammo and left. Never saw him again. I hate to be indebted to anyone and tried contacting him several times but all phone calls went straight to voice mail and he wouldn't respond to E-mails. Found out when I returned to work that he had left his longtime girlfriend and ran off with another mans wife leaving a lot of debt behind. Oh well.

Hi...
Posted this deal on other forums and threads over the years.
I was sitting in a friend's gun shop just shooting the breeze when an older gentleman came in with a bunch of handguns to sell.
I bought an N-frame 29 Classic, a M25 in .45"Colt and a M57 in .41Mag for $900 total. He had a M27 for $300 but I didn't buy that one. Big regret there...
Earlier this fall, I bought a very slightly used Black Hawk in .41Mag for $315 at a local gun shop. I thought that a decent deal.

Been some other good deals over the years.
I bought a S&W Model 10 from a coworker for $50 about 30 years ago.
Also bought a Marlin .22Mag lever action rifle from a coworker for about $50 around 1975. Still use it to blow the thumbstacks off targets at the 25yd target stand...just to show off.
