No such thing. "Budget" OTF usually means Chinese toys that break inevetably.

OTFs are inherently more expensive than side openers because of the more complex mechanism and tight tolerances (unless you like a rattle trap). Add double action (in and out) and it goes up further.

The 'budget' level starts with the Paragon single action OTFs. Look at Blade HQ's video on the OTFs.

Yup. My first (and only living) OTF knife is a Benchmade Infidel. Got it for a steal overseas on a military PX for $330 years ago. Almost at the $500 mark on the website for the same model. I have broken the knife TWICE and Benchamde has fixed it. No shipping cost and no charge both times. I bought a cheap OTF on Amazon for $50 and it stopped working the 4th time I pushed the button. Lesson learned on cheap OTF knives.

Microtech's lifetime warranty:

"We believe that when you purchase a Microtech knife, you have bought the best. Our talented associates work hard to ensure that the quality of every knife surpasses your expectations. We stand behind the first-class materials, quality craftsmanship and durability of our knives.

Microtech Knives proudly and confidently extends a Lifetime Warranty against any defects in materials or workmanship. We expect you to use the knife. We made it with that in mind.

The term “Lifetime” refers to the lifetime of the product. This doesn’t mean your lifetime or ours, but rather the lifetime of the components and materials. All materials degrade over time with use and exposure to the elements and a product’s lifetime is a function of how much use it gets and how well it is cared for and not by how old it is."

It's the old "buy once, cry once". Pay more, get a better product with a company that stands behind their product. They will always have a resale value which a cheap knife will never have. With Microtech you will always get something back, depending on the model, you may get more than you paid as some models appreciate.

This is a good (and accurate) observation, however I think you're thinking about it wrong.

The fact that a person can't afford (or can't justify paying for) a good quality OTF doesn't mean they should buy a "budget OTF". It means that they should look at other operating mechanisms. Just about anyone can afford to buy a good solid knife with a good warranty that will perform very well and that will be very durable--it just may not be an OTF.

After learning about OTFs, I decided I would rather spend my money elsewhere. Not because I can't afford to buy a good quality OTF but because I would enjoy it more if I were to spend that much money in other ways.

Ok then my nect question are OTF knives worth the money. Can they be used for everyday use can they be used for camping hunting fishing can they be ised in survival are they tptally dependable/reliable as what i would use a folder knife for?

Which otf is best then overall whcih is best as the top qualitiy cost close to same money

To some they are. Based on your criteria listed later in the post, I don't think they would be for you.

Can they be used for everyday use
For many people, whose EDC tasks are lighter duty, they can be. For heavier duty EDC tasks, I'd use a manual folder.

can they be used for camping hunting fishing can they be ised in survival are they tptally dependable/reliable as what i would use a folder knife for?
No. For absolute reliability in those situations get a fixed blade.

Have you considered a flipper or an assisted opening knife? One of them might be a more durable, dependable and less expensive alternative. You can buy a flipper from $20 up to as much as you want to spend, depending on the level of quality you require.

Worth the money? That's subjective. You have to understand what the thing is to understand its worth.

Survival/Fishing/Hunting? Short answer - NO! Complex mechanisms are never good for "survival". Fouling the complex mechanism with blood/meat/hair from cleaning game is likely. Cleaning it out is unlikely due to tight tolerances. Their blade design is slender to be compatable with the mechanism driving it out of the body so blade shapes don't lend themselves to those roles. Tangs, or their equivalent, must be short to fit the mechanism so the uses in scraping or prying are "limited".

OTOH, the very best, read usually as more expensive, ones provide a wider range of use due to better design, materials and construction. They're still subject to fouling, though.

You don't use a Ferrari as a farm tractor (although there are Ferrari farm tractors still out there).
