Best Point & Shoot Gun

Some of the most natural pointers for me have been:

- Glock "compact" models (not sub-compact)
- Browning Hi-Power
- Steyr M9

Haven't shot enough 1911s to know for sure, but at the gun counter they've always felt pretty good.

OK. In my original post I should have asked what you would do if confronted with a situation that requires using your weapon. Specifically, I believe most people would "point & shoot" as opposed to "aim and fire". What do you think and why?:)

My PPK/S has a great grip angle, and is WAY more reliable than my Kel-Tec ever even wished it could be.

It is interesting that we each had exactly opposite experiences with these guns. My PPK/S (S&W) failed often but my P32 has not failed yet. I guess both of these companies are still lacking in the consistency of quality.

I'm going to have to second the vote for the Sig P232. This gun, despite the diminutive sights, is a fantastic point shooter. I only got it about two weeks ago, but as soon as I took it to the range and fired it I knew it was destined to be my newest carry gun.

For and Autoloader the P35.
I'm glad there are so many others here who recognize the excellent qualities of the 1851 Navy. Wild Bill Hickock sure knew his guns and he agreed with us on this score.

Oh, yeah. And the clones in .44 caliber just don't have quite the same...heft as the .36s do. Freakin' thing just seems like it homes in on a target.

(of course it is a black powder gun)

Yeah...but it's still put its share of men in the dust, for sure. Not what I'd opt for today...but I still wouldn't feel helpless with one if I had to.

Probably depends on what you were learned with. I grew up around 1911's and snubbies, so those feel natural to me. Glocks and Lugers point high. I've been toting a little Taurus PT745 that points pretty natural, once again, for me.

Luger followed by the Hi Power.

Look at the target, close your eyes, pick up the gun and point it at the target. Eyes still closed. Now open your eyes.

I'd go with a Glock 26 and a 3" 1911 Kimber Ultra. Small guns seem to work best on point shooting.

Remington 51

Hands down - best natural pointer is the John Pederson designed Remington Model 51 in either .32ACP or .380ACP. Best ergonmically designed grip shape and angle. Lousy trigger but great natural pointer.

I own the following "usual suspects" and would rank them as follows in regards to pointability:

1) Luger
2) S&W K frame (Model 15)
3) Hi-Power
3) 1911 (tie)

I have handled, but do not own, the Steyr M40, and it is also very good. Same goes for the CZ P-01 and the Bersa Thunder 9 UC.

The Luger is mentioned 4 times in this thread. I'd venture to say it's in the "Top Ten" if not the top 3 of "Best Point & Shoot".:)
