Though I'm living on the road most of the time - around the country - I'm a new resident of South Dakota and will be in Sioux Falls and Rapid City in the next few weeks.

I'm planning to pick up a couple of handguns while in SD and to save me some time, would like some recommendations on shops which have the best inventory of the latest handguns and such.

Any recommendations would be much appreciated. Thanks!

You should check out The Exchange at 322 Main Ave., Brookings which is about 60 miles north of Sioux Falls. If their online inventory is anything to go by they probably have a good selection at their store. I've bought a bunch of firearms via the internet from them and Jamie (owner's daughter) is great to work with. Their prices are generally quite reasonable.

Hey SD resident here,

Gary's Guns in Sioux Falls has a good selection, but they are a pain to deal with at times. Only indoor range in Sioux Falls to my knowledge. Not the best prices.

Kones Korner in Castlewood is well known, but I've never been there.

The Exchange in Brookings has the best prices I've found. Thats where I do all my purchases. Not the largest selection, but good people and great prices.

Kjergaards is in Lake Benton, MN. Fantastic store, but not in SD. Just over the boarder in MN. Huge selection, and they are very easy to deal with. They have an agreement of some sort with a FFL in SD to get handguns. Its about 30 mins from Brookings.

I live east river so I don't know about the rapid area for gun stores.

First Stop Gun and Coin is hands down the best gun shop in Rapid City. I bought my first handgun there, four guns total, have traded with them, and they also recently sold me my first 1911. They sell you what you need if you're new to guns, not what they think is cool, and they sell you what you want if you know guns, not what has a higher price tag. Fair trades, helpful but reserved sales people. They offer an opinion when you ask for it, they don't run at the mouth. They know guns, they aren't weekend warriors.

There is a Cabela's and a Scheels also that have good selection, but lame prices of course. There are also many pawn shops in Rapid City, so look around. Good luck.
