Binocular diopter question

I use binoculars just about every time I hunt, whether it's for scoping out my prey or simply enjoying nature. So here is my question: If the diopter on my binoculars is correctly adjusted for my eyes, and let us say it is -2.0, can this number be applied to other binoculars or is specifically for my binoculars alone? In other words, let us say I borrow a pair of binocs from a friend; can I dial in the -2.0 and expect to see clearly?

1. adjust the binocular so that you see one circle with both eyes open.
2. if the diopter adjust is on the right eye ( I think most of them are) , cover that lens and adjust the focus with the left eye.
3. once you have done that cover the left eye and adjust for clarity with the diopter adjustment.
4. once that is done you are good to go.

Thanks, Steveno, but I'm familiar with how to adjust the diopter. My question is does this numerical setting apply to other binoculars?

In a "perfect world" yes, since we are basically just talking focal length.

BUT, since there are slight variations in the glass of most optics...I would use the "2" diopter settings as starting point.

I really pay no attention to the numeric symbols on my Binoculars or Scope...except to note what they are AFTER I have achieved a good clear view.

Same thing with setting "parallax" on a scope, forget about the settings on the scope and just adjust it until it is clear FOR YOU (at a known yardage) THEN.....note what the reading is on the scope for future reference.
