Birthday Glock.

No, not a new Glock for me, but an interesting experience.

I turned 45 on the 6th. Thought that I'd do something that I've not done before. That is..finally Shoot a Glock 10mm.

Having shot 9mm, .40 and .45 Glocks over the years, but never a G20 or G29.
Trying out a Glock 10 seemed like something I had to do.

My mother went with me to the local indoor range for our 2nd annual get together there.

After signing the paperwork and paying for the range fee/rental Glock 20 and
one of the shop's few boxes of Speer/CCI (produced locally in Lewiston, Idaho) 200 grain TMJ practice ammo.

We put on the shooting protection and set forth.

Upon entering the shooting bay. I loaded up a 15 round magazine with 7 rounds and loaded the big G20.

I have medium sized hands for a guy.. but long westphalian fingers like a pianist. As always , the G20 grip felt too big for me, but not so overly large that it was awkward for me to grasp/shoot.

Initial shot:

At distance of approx 17 yards/ my first shot was one of only 20 with this
gun.

The glock trigger was muck akin to a G19's five pound pull. The first shot broke cleanly... and the rather sedate 200 grain slug punched a nice hole in the target a bit lower than the center bullseye.

However, even though this was sub sonic ( or close ) ammo. My trigger finger didn't like the Glock at all. Basically, the recoil stung my finger and recoil translated to my pounding/stinging my entire hand.

My reaction to this was to keep shooting..telling my self that this wasn't
so bad to be unbearable.

The next 6 shots mirrored the first, but my hand continued to sting and
it was becoming less fun by the time the mag ran dry.

I've owned and shot .44 magnums that were far more pleasant for me
to shoot.

Having owned a Witness 10mm for about 8 years now, I'm no stranger
to the cartridge in either hot handloads or performance/ hunting ammo like
DT.

I remarked to my Mother.. that the gun was not pleasant for me, making a mental note that this wasn't as bad as the hot 180 in a G22, but close
enough to make this outing uncomfortable. The then newly introduced
Glock .40 was downright brutal on me. A shooting pain ( no pun)
through my trigger finger, and hand, up my arm and into my neck.

Funny thing, I was scary accurate with this thing that was pounding me.
But by round 20, I'd had enough, and packed up the G20.

We went back into the shop and I Told that Range Master that I wasn't having much fun.

I then rented the Glock 17 and returned to shooting.

MUCH better on recoil than the G20, but as a well used range gun.
Had a long and spongy trigger that was hard to get any decent
accuracy from. I much prefer a 5.5 or even heavier trigger on
Glocks. The 9mm had low recoil, but my hand was still stinging
from the mighty 10.

The fact that i have the muscular disease Fibromyalgia. Probably contributed to my reaction to the G20s recoil.

Having asked people on GT and elsewhere on forums about the recoil with a
G20 or any Glock 10mm, and always had varied replies on the subject.

I'd not want to shoot any of my rather hot handloads, or prefered DT
ammo in a Glock.

I'd have to say that as a Glock fan. The Glock 10mm wasn't my cup of tea, but I can sure see why people dearly love the G17/19s and the soft shooting
9 x 19 cartridge.

I love gock - man, it's awesome on tortilla chips.

In all seriousness, my experience with Glocks has been that I've shot them really well, and liked them...some. Got pinched by the trigger a little (perfectly tolerable, really, but annoying). They don't conceal well on me, though, probably due to where I carry. Causes the tail end to stick out a bit too far. I also wasn't a fan of their look - irrelevant for a carry gun, but since I didn't carry 'em...

Happy belated Birthday...and a nice birthday getaway it is...with MOM!!!

Basically, the recoil stung my finger and recoil translated to my pounding/stinging my entire hand.

This is the first time I heard of stinging trigger finger. Is this common? The reason why, is that I've always been shooting the .40S&W Glock and never had any issues physically.

Not a Glock owner and never shot one, heard that they are damn fun though. I'd like to shoot one one day and see for myself the hype.
