I swear I am not making this up, but I cannot have my LCP in my pocket and pet my parent's cats without shocking them. XDm on the hip? Fine. M&P in the pocket with a Remora? Fine. LCP in the pocket with a DeSantis Nemesis? I hear and feel the crackling of static electricity as I pet and scratch the kitties.

I should be getting the DeSantis Superfly in for my M&P soon, so I'll see how that works next time I'm over there. But for the life of me I can't figure out how my LCP makes this happen. All I know is the only times I've had this *shocking* problem (pun intended), it's been with the LCP in my pocket.

Maybe something to do with the smaller size, it rubs back and forth more in your pocket as you move. Even if it doesn't feel like it is moving around in there, it only takes a fraction of an inch of rubbing to create that static electricity.

There isn't a laser by any chance on you LCP is there?!?!

Nope, just the normal version with no laser on it. My cell phone doesn't cause this issue, and it moves more in the pocket, so I'm surprised the LCP would.

Glad to see a serious issue about the LCP posted on here every once and a while. :neener:

It is when I have to disarm myself so I can pet some cats without them running away!

Without full information, my guess would be that it has nothing to do with the LCP, except that you choose to carry the LCP when wearing certain types of clothes (ie maybe formal business wear or something) and it's actually the clothes causing the problem. I guess you need to run some experiments keeping everything else constant (same day, same clothes, same cat). Haha.

You have three options.

1. Stop petting cats with a gun in your pocket.

2. Hang a log chain from your pants to ground yourself.

3. Spray the holster with Static Guard laundry spray.

Maybe spray the cat with it too?

Plastic, in this case in combination with the holster material, actually does promote and conduct static electricity. There is a reason why, for example, you should not put a plastic gas can on a plastic truck bedliner while filling it.

Like I said, I swap out the LCP with Nemesis for the M&P with Remora (only change) and no issue.

That might be it. I should be getting my DeSantis Superfly soon, I'll see if it has the same issue. If it does, I might look at the spray that rc mentioned.

Brotherfrankie, that is definitely a win. You certainly are making a good entrance to this forum. Actually, they did take out one of my mice...my $80 gaming mouse got the cord chewed through and stopped working.

im guessing it has something to do with the type of polymer thay use to make the frame.
different plastics and polymers have different conductive and/or insulation qualities.

Well, I'll see if my M&P in a SuperFly does the same thing on Sunday. Just got the holster, going over to my parents' on sunday, so I'll see what happens to their cats then.

I would suspect its the holster. Isn't the holster you are using a little rubbery on the outside?

BTW, I never trust anyone who doesn't like cats, or smile at babies.

So...M&P 9C in Remora OR DeSantis Super Fly, no problem. The material on the Super Fly is a lot different than the Nemesis, though, but I'm pretty much convinced it was the LCP.

I smile at babies, even more if they are sleeping. I only like cats that act like dogs. You'd have to get to know the two cats we have in the barn to understand that but it's valid.

I understand completely. We used to have a cat that my Jack Russel trained. She would walk right up to people.

But back to the topic, I carry a LCP and pet animals all the time without a shock. I really can't see how having some metal in your pocket would create static electricity.

Although BrotherFrankie's thoughts do have some merritt. Try carrying a .45

Anti Static heel straps I have at work would probably solve the problem. Maybe I should get an LCP for annoying people such as my fiancee with the static.

I'm guessing this is your summer pocket carry. This has been a drought year in many places. Static electricity builds up when it's dry like it has been this year.

Is it abnormally dry where you pet this cat? AC running a lot and drying out the air? It may have nothing to do with the gun or holster, and just a correlation with time of year, environmental condidtions, clothing choice, and unassociated lucky correlation with your LCP.

Draw the LCP, shoot the cats, replace LCP, end of problem.

Harming or killing small animals for no reason is a sign of homicidal and psychotic behavior, and is a possible indicator of a person becoming a future serial killer.......... My cat told me so.

AC doesn't exist here. Like I said, I take the LCP out of my pocket, I can pet them fine. Put it back in, static. It is the only variable I changed.
