The Jul 15 issue of Business Insider has an article on two organizations that have been reaching out to the Black community.

One is the formed in 2016, Black Guns Matter, founded by Maj Toure. Toure has appeared before Congressional Committees to debate gun ownership and has traveled the country to teach. In this video he discusses and defends the the 2nd Amendment.

The other group is the National African American Gun Association headed up by Philip Johnson. He claims that 15,000 new members have joined in 2020.

Their webpages:

"“We saw so much ignorance going on,” Toure said. “Guys that lived in rough neighborhoods may have been missing some information in order to carry a firearm on their person. So what we in essence did was we created the space to let people know what was their process and what process it was of getting a firearm, lawfully carrying it on their person if they chose to, while being safe and responsible.”

All my black friends LOVE guns, but I do surround myself with exceptional individuals and race has never been a factor or even a thought .

I know more milquetoast anti-2A white folks than any other demographic . my mom is one of them but even she owns guns. Go figure.

Good piece.

For some, it’s owning a gun. Even if that’s not something they may have ever wanted to do. In the video above, a chorus of Black voices from across the country — a schoolteacher in Oakland, Calif., a political strategist in Aurora, Colo., and others — have an urgent message: “Go buy a gun. Arm yourself. And just make sure you get some training.”

Note their motivations may not be the standard ones but that's OK.

I love this kind of thing. It's always great to see black people at gun ranges, especially when a certain percentage of conservatives are saying stupid things about civil war and the importance of keeping "precious European blood" untainted. Black people need to be welcomed.

If you want to change someone's whole outlook on life, take a black friend to Bass Pro.

Black Guns Matter and founder Maj Toure has been a revolutionary force in recruiting new gun owners to become supporters of guns rights and Second Amendment in the urban community not just for blacks but all minorities and has been touring the major cities educating people why they should become gun owners and 2A activists and to have lasting presence in all 50 states.

This "must watch" presentation by Maj is eye opening (to everyone, especially under current national unrest) and rings true to 2A's focus - One of great arguments I have heard for responsible and educated gun ownership with emphasis in proper safe training for new gun rights activists to become "freedom virus" to spread the 2A message - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...lated-information.849620/page-2#post-11092871

Good presentation on "racial conditioning" at 13:30 minute of video

In addition to Black Guns Matter proliferating nationwide, we also have the National African American Gun Association - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...lated-information.849620/page-6#post-11194357

And they are not alone in the proliferation of gun ownership and gun rights activism in the black community. Antonia Okafor is an outspoken Second Amendment activist and states at 14:00 minute of video, "There are blacks passionate about the Second Amendment ... I know how important it is to have the right to defend myself, ... I am a victim of sexual assault" - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...lated-information.849620/page-3#post-11098788

My club welcomes all US Citizens provided they all meet the clubs requirements which is for All members. We do not discriminate on color and we have some great African American members was well as others like Hispanic, Greek American, Italians etc.

I think the African American organization is great. I do have a question. Do they also accept White Americans and others? Or is it just for African Americans?

If the movement for gun rights among African-Americans is limited to black conservatives (who at most are 8 - 10% of all blacks), it's going to fall flat. This must not become a partisan issue.

This thread stands the risk of wandering into politics and nastier racial issues. Sharing information about supportive organizations is fine. Let's not make it a conservative/liberal debate or demanding/suggesting that said organizations act in a way you want (with a hidden agenda) or criticizing them.

It's her organization and her criteria for membership and we don't have a say. I believe her organization focuses on college campus female gun ownership for prevention of rape/violence.

However, I believe Black Guns Matter accepts all as their primary focus is educating and training all urban gun owners to become 2A activists, regardless of race.

But one thing is certain. Since the unrest/rioting/protest/looting started, I am sure many are looking at gun ownership in a very different light, especially for those living in urban areas.

Yes, I agree.

We should focus on the proliferation of gun ownership and active efforts to properly educate and motivate gun owners to become gun rights activists which Black Guns Matter and other organizations are doing.

And as more allies join our fight against the antis, stronger our voice will be to the law makers.
