My .357/9mm convertible. Fun gun to shoot.

That actually bothers me less than the extra steel and reworking they did for the new model. They're heavier in the hand, and don't balance as well. But they are still beautiful revolvers, and one advantage of all that extra steel is the make ideal fodder for the custom shops.

I see, doesn't bother me at all, makes hot 180 grain loads a pleasure to shoot.

Howdy! I'm new to posting on the boards but have been reading them for awhile. The Blackhawk topic won't let me pass by! I'm a Blackhawk/Vaquero junkie...all are .45 Colt, some are convertibles, most are blue and all are excellent shooters! I put together a 3 1/2" birdshead with Bisley hammer and trigger and checkered walnut gunfighter grips--it is my favorite carry gun! I helped anotherr fellow tightenup the cylinder rotational play in his .30 Carbine Blackhawk and turned it into a squirrel shooter. Lets start the Blackhawk Board!

What Do You Carry Your BH In?

I see some fine looking guns here. And some fine looking holsters. That is my question, what does everyone carry theirs in?

I like Cosmoline's flap holster. That is the type that I am looking for. He sent me a link to the Triple K holster firm, which is where his is from.

Living in South East Alaska, we get over 13 feet of rain per year. I really want some flapped coverage.

I'm in. I had some Blackhawks and a couple Vaqueros a few years ago that I got rid of in favor of DA revolvers because, although I really liked them, I figured they were too archaic for practical use. That changed when I purchased a 50th Anniversay Blackhawk in .357. I felt like I had returned home after a long absence. Next came an Acusport Bisley .357, another Flattop 50th .357 and finally the same Blackhawk that started this thread - the 6.5 inch stainless .357 (a truly wonderful revolver). I don't know where this will lead but now figure these revolvers are no more archaic than I am. I need to figure out how to post pictures.

Flap holsters don't get nearly enough love. From the movies you'd think everyone in the 19th century went around with their valuable iron exposed to the elements.

A quick picture of my "Dragoon" with it's Bianchi #1 holster. Bill

I bought one of those Triple K flap holsters for my Vaquero. But I have hardly used it at all, since the 357 d/a is my daily carry and I haven't been camping in grizzly country since then. I really need to carry the Vaquero once in while just for the fun of it. I'm thinking the full flap holster would be  for open carry in Billings ;)

The thing that concerns me is the belt slide is just a little patch of leather sewed on the back. I plum wore out a holster for my d/a when the edge of the cylinder wore through the stitching from the inside. Would not be too fun for the holster to just fall apart and fall off your belt .... :(

Cosmoline: have you used that Triple K flap holster a lot, and if so - how is it holding up?

thanks in advance, tp :)

"50th anniversary and liberty model both 4 5/8" in 357 mag"

Mavracer - I'm drawing a blank on the "liberty model". Can you fill me in on what that is?

I have a pair of six-inch "Old Model" Blackhawks in .357 Magnum.
They are supposed to be used in Cowboy Action shooting and maybe they will this summer.

The first one was bought used in 1979. It was my most used centerfire handgun for years. I hunted small game with it, shot Hunter's Pistol Silhouette with it, and even hunted deer with it a time or two. Although fairly long, it carries very well in the woods.

The second was bought two years ago and has an auxiliary 9mm cylinder. It's not as accurate as the .357 cylinder but is fun to have around.
Both guns shoot well with my .38 reloads and I use them a lot more than .357s. They will handle hot .357s and, probably better than some of my double-action .357 revolvers.

I came close to buying a Blackhawk in .45 Colt a couple of times. Also nearly bought a new model in .41 Magnum, but I prefer the older Blackhawks so passed.

Currently a "Liberty" .41Mag and a stainless .357 with a blued 9mm cylinder and Super gripframe I call my "FrankenHawk". The past holds several and the future several more.

I'm in...

80's vintage New Model 4 5/8 " .45 Colt carried in a Safariland open top with a hammer loop. Best walkin' around gun ever. If I absolutely had to hit a running rabbit with a handgun the Blackhawk is the one I would choose. And woe be unto that rabbit ( grin ).

i have just one blackhawk but its the gun of my wanting for the last 10 years. 50th 44 mag. Fun to shoot, makes me smell campfires and it fuels my desire to se a distant mountain

Reddbecca and Potato Judge, thank you. It seems kinda obvious now that you've explained it :) .
