I just tried to de-primer my thumb. Man that hurts like hell. That's all I have carry on.:banghead:

"rcbs" thumb

One day while still a novice reloader (1977) i pinched my left thumb between the top of the shell holder & a .44 mag die, when the operating handle of my "rockchucker" decided to suddenly drop downward without my consent !!!! The pain was so bad, i actually cried & thought i was gonna puke.

I mentioned this incident a few days later while chatting around the water fountain with another reloader. He laughed, shook my sore hand and said "welcome to the international brotherhood of reloaders. You have now earned your first "purple heart" loading injury----"rcbs thumb".

Have never forgot this incident & learned quickly to keep the left hand away from the ram & keep the right hand on that heavy, well lubricated control handle. Hope you heal ok !!!!

Now that I think about it, how did you do that or what press do you have?

.380 with the flare die going too fast and tried to cut a piece off my thumb once. As my father used to remind my when using power equipment, "the pink ones are your fingers".

Been there. Not as bad as some. My friend pierced his finger joint nail trying to go fast. I've had a shallow poke-hole.

I learned, (the hard way) more than 45 years ago, that when casting or reloading, you PAY ATTENTION to what you're doing. I won't even have music playing in my shop when reloading.

'Man that hurts like hell. '

If you had just asked several of us could have told you that without you having to try it yourself. ?? Anyway, don't worry, it'll heal in 6 or 8 months. ;)

I reload with a press mounting in front of my keyboard.
I watch TV on my computer and post on gun forums while reloading.
I do all kinds of dangerous overloads and operate all kinds of power tools with no safety equipment.

But when I was end wheel grinding some TIG weld off the rear bridge of a surplus Mauser, I got my other hand stuck in the other end wheel and it pulled my finger up into the cowling.

In less than a second, I knew it would be 5 hours in the emergency room, 3 stitches, and $1500.

The wife drove me. I told her to come back in 5 hours.
I tried to keep the nurses and doctors laughing the whole time.
I guess I needed a break from my busy life.
Of all the tools I operate, I never thought that the grinder would be the one to bite me.

Yep, that's a mistake you only make once. I had a black thumbnail for months.

Did you know that fingers are thicker than .204"?? Sideways.

The side of my left middle finger & nail are much thinner than they used to be.
(surface grinder) :(

I did that in 1994. I recall it like it was yesterday.
