Bore sighting made easy

Yeah, and I've shot rifles that keyholed so bad that the bullets missed the whole backstop from 25 yards even after being bore-sighted!:what:

Supposing you were "on paper" at 100 yards with a heavily tweaked scope (e.g., point of impact adjusted way up and way to the left), would it make sense to "re-zero" the scope and do another bore sighting, with the idea being that the new bore sight would result in closer alignment to the "neutral" position of the scope turrets?

I guess my first concern would be if the scope could be adjusted far enough to bring your point of impact back to point of aim. How many inches too high? How many inches too far left? Multiply inches by four (usually, at 100 yards) to get the number of "clicks" and start adjusting. If you run out of adjustment, changes will need to be made to your mounts.

I don't know if centering your scope and re-bore sighting would be a useful step. But I'm ready to learn.

ive done a lot of boresighting with a old bushnell bore sighter that takes the arbors you put in the barrel for diff calibers. it works well once you learn how to be precise with your adjustments. and i always remove it and boresite 3 times to make sure.

ive also done it the look down the bore way also. both will get you on paper easily and usually very close once you have done them a few times.

a few years ago i made a very heavy rifle vice. it adjusts elevation with a screw and you adjust windage by bumping it back and forth on the table. its rather crude but very effective.simialr to a lot of the commercial rifle vises.

the reason i made it was a lot of buddys would show up with their new or old rifles a few days before deer season and want me to help them site them in. and of course yu know they would only show up with bout a half box of shells

so with the vice i can shoot one shot and then put the crosshairs back on the aim point, adjust and they would be dead on.something another couple of previous posters already mentioned.

they are happy cuz they didnt have to buy more shells and im happy cuz im now drinking their beer after the shooting is over.

and yes i know i should make them practice shooting more but they wont. im also the guy they call to help them track down the buck they made a bad shot on.

either way i get lots of free backstrap.
