I have a new AR 15 and want to get a bore snake for cleaning, but I have never seen one in .223 in any store or catalog what size do I buy?

22 cal is what U use. I have a PS90 - barrel is about the same dimensions. The 22 cal works for both.

I went and got one last month. Works well.

There are a lot of better options than the Boresnake, in my opinion. It seems like every gun forum has at least one or two threads about someone's Boresnake breaking or getting stuck in the bore. I'd go with the Otis cleaning kit, myself. It's more rugged and lets you clean from the breech like the Boresnake does. It even allows you to tap out an obstruction if needed. Just my $0.02 worth.

Problem with the Otis kit is they are a PITA to use and the small pieces parts tend to get lost and the proprietary replacement patches are expensive though you can cut some out of standard patches if you are patient and own an X-Acto knife and a box of bandages.
I own two Otis kits that are laying slightly used in a storage box in the basement where they have remained for the last couple of years.
A waste of money in my experience.

The standard .22 rifle BoreSnake will work fine for the AR15 as a quicky bore cleaner but remember that you will still need a way to brush clean the chamber and lug area so a rod and chamber brush are still must have and must use items for any AR type rifle.

If you look at the Boresnake box,I believe it says for calibers .221-.224 or something similiar. But it's just labeled on websites as a .22 caliber Boresnake. And I used a .22 Boresnake on my AR with no problems.

I use standard patches with my Otis. I just poke a hole where I need it, when I need it. You can prep a bunch of patches and load them into the kit for later easily enough also. I just jab a screwdriver through a small stack of them at a time. No sense bothering with the Xacto. They don't break off in the bore and end a hunt, or worse. Also, no need to wash it either.
