I paid $250 for a barely fired 9VE, so now I own a 9mm semi that will shoot 17 times without needing a speedloader or moonclip.

The trigger's exactly what I was looking for: something that won't go BANG while I'm fishing it out of the map pocket in my car.

And it's stupid simple.

What else could a guy get for $250 that'll beat that?

Doc,sounds like a good deal to me.I know several Constable buddies of mine that got a super deal on a group buy a few years ago. They all love them.I'd like to try one of those Sigmas some day.tom.

Well, it's just that there are other options that have lighter triggers that still won't go BANG when getting it out of the map pocket.

I'd never be able to get used to the trigger pull personally, but if you're happy with it, that's all that matters.

He mentioned moon clips... he came from revolvers so more than likely he is already used to that heavy pull. The only real issue with sigmas is that SOME are lemons but mostly that trigger pull is not to many people's liking. Most of us prefer the Glock, XD, or 1911 triggers. I honestly think it is one of the ugliest autos I have ever seen in my life too.... other than that it seems solid and all. My friend seems to like his.

No one who has a Glock, or likes it, should be calling any other gun ugly! My biggest problem with the Glock, Sigma and others is that I think they should have a safety. (If someone doesn't want to use it, fine, but it should be there, and I don't consider the "safety" on the Glock to be much of one.) These are all excellent guns, reliable, accurate and very dependable, but the manufacturers of most plastic autos aren't concerned at all about looks. I've yet to see an engraved Glock or Sigma, though adding an .mp3 player and a clock to one might not be a bad idea!

Perhaps Verizon might want to have a "phone Glock." When it rings, you just hit the button on top of the safety, which in turn is on top of the trigger. You could speak into a microphone that also doubles as an extractor. The battery would be in the bottom of the magazine and the speaker would be in the grips.

I've never shot a Sigma, so I don't know how close to the Glock it is in actual firing. It was close enough in operation to cause a lawsuit and the subsequent payment of royalties of some sort to Glock by Smith & Wesson. Still, I like guns with hammers. I also like the "cocked and locked" configurations of the 1911s; and above all else, I like the beauty of the classic guns. Can't knock the fact that the new ones work, though.

If I could find a Sigma for a great price, I might get one just to see if it would grow on me.

I use mine as my nightstand and cold weather carry gun in 40 cal. I got mine and had S&W do a trigger job on it. Mine breaks at 5.5 pounds and has a shorter pull.

Now you have... Glock has a master engraver that will do it if you ask them to.

$10,500 gold inlaid Glock 19...

You can even get this done if you want it to shoot faster lol. For the record Glock did NOT do this one... I would imagine only someone with a mullet would.

Glock's really aren't ugly... they are some of the better looking polymer guns in my opinion. They aren't flashy but really aren't ugly at all they are just somewhat plain looking.

Can you give me a short list with 17 rounds of 9mm at $250?;)

Glocks arent that ugly...

I mean, they are simple, sleek, and have a nice profile. I don't see what's so ugly about them. They surely are not what I'd call elegant, but...

Hey, I like 1911s, I like S&W revolvers. I had a fling with a Glock early last month, and realized why folks like them (post here:).

I think the Sigma is a worthy gun because:

1) It brings a reliable gun with a major warranty and customer service backing to the masses at a non-nosebleed price.
2) accuracy and reliability score highly
3) The trigger ain't a "dream", but it beats MOST da revolvers out there on the market.

Disassembling my (briefly owned) Glock and examining it, it was quite clear that it was about $175 to $200 worth of production costs in making it, tops. The difference between that and the $600 street price is simply money mostly leaving the US and heading to Austria. Kudos to S&W for cutting that margin and rebating most of it to the consumer, and giving the consumer a fairly functionally equivalent product at 1/2 the price, and lastly keeping it all in the USA. I have way more guns than I need, but if someone dangled a Sigma in front of me in 9mm or .40, I'd jump on it. And I am NOT a fan of cheap guns. It's a decent gun.

The trigger is just not that bad - it's not great, but it's not like an HK VP70 or something...

i had one the 40ve never had a problem they are good for the price i just can't stand the triggers on them

Great deal! I'd buy another one for $250. I went shooting with a buddy today and shot circles around his XD45 with my 9VE. He even made a comment about my crappy trigger. I did however shoot my best group of the day with his XD. But with practice the SW9VE is a great shooter. I like the trigger.

Sigma is a solid built firearm. Its a no-frills, basic and reliable shooter. I'll admit the trigger pull isn't something to write home about but I would not turn one down simply because it had a rough trigger pull.

Sigmas that I've had have all worked welll, and were decently accurate. Good gun, especially for the money..

Now I know what gun snobs are. :neener:

Congrats on the purchase Doc540. When it comes to guns beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I'm just glad we have choices it'd be a lot duller if the only thing available was Glocks. If a gun shoots well it tends to make it look prettier to me.

he came from revolvers so more than likely he is already used to that heavy pull.

And there you have what all the fuss is about!
I see way too many folks (usually newer shooters) that seem to think you need/gotta have a hair trigger on a SD gun. Probably the same folks that think you need 500hp to go to the Quickie Mart for a quart of milk, a $5,000 gaming computer to check your e-mail, etc?
As one who learned on DA revolvers, I'm of the opinion if the Sigma trigger pull bothers you, it's time to learn to shoot. I had to laugh reading one of Ayoob's books where he said as much!

Mebbe everybody should be required to learn to shoot on a DA revolver-or something with a trigger like the Sigma?

'Course, then there are the folks that wanna whine 'bout patent infringement etc-at's between S&W and Glock-I don't give a rat's behind, as long as the gun works.

BTW-I own some of the usual name dropping brands/models, but my nightstand gun is a Sigma 9E with an Insight light on it.

My dad has one of these, he bought it a couple of years ago when they were going for $250 brand new. He absolutely loves it. It's light weight, holds 16 in the mag and is DAO. I never really warmed up to it myself for two out of those three reasons. Personally I'd rather have a steel frame; a full size pistol that recoils like that should put out a more powerful round in my opinion. He's sent it back to S&W to have the trigger worked on, and while it's a bit nicer, it's still really heavy and a bit gritty. You get to workout your trigger finger at the range.

Can you give me a short list with 17 rounds of 9mm at $250?

Sarsilmaz 9mm (rebranded Armalite). 13 +1 rounds. About the same retail price as the Sigma.

Ruger P95. Same retail price as the Sigma. 15 +1 rounds.

I know there are more, but those are the ones that came to mind first.

Like I said, if you're happy with it, that's all that matters.

Jason

I don't have a major problem with the Sigma trigger really. I just don't like it. I am not saying the gun isn't a good gun but the trigger and the overall look of it throws me off. The rail looks odd, it looks too square overall, and it has an odd shape to it. I also don't like the 2 tone look of the SW9VE I prefer all black. I do own a glock 19 and I prefer it over a sigma by far... I prefer the size and overall appearance but still that is only preference.

The sigma feels solid, is almost identical to a glock, feels decent in the hands, and I have heard nothing but good things about it... atleast the new ones. I haven't shot it yet but my friend seems to really like his.

My bad.

Until you typed it, I'd never heard of a Sarsilmaz and I did search Gunbroker.com and never did find a P95 selling for anywhere near the $250 I paid for the Sigma.

Took it to the range today, by the way.

No problems, and I could group it easily.
