Brady Campaign's states report cards

Wow you guys have much better states than Hawaii....lol. My home state Illinois does better than Hawaii, though here we do not need a FOID card. I grew up in Chicago though. Could not own handguns there. At least in Hawaii we can.

Kentucky got 2 out of 100 pts. No surprise there. Most of us take our gun ownership seriously. Only thing that worries me is all of them furriners moving here from up north and the farthest west.
Yes, but your knife laws SUCK.

MN got 11/100(stupid waiting period on handguns), not quite as good as KY, though I can legally carry a 4" pocket knife concealed(or a bowie knife, if I were out of the twin cities) :p.

Bakert,
Don't be too hard on all of us Northerners, I've got to get out of this god forsaken state of Illinois. It has given us both Hillery & Obama and toss in Daley. I can't take it anymore. Thankfully, I'm nearing retirement age and am getting the hell out of Dodge so to speak.

My son was stationed at Ft. Campbell prior to his adventure in the sandbox and I came to love the area down there. I've spent quite a bit of time down there both in your state and your neighbors (Tenn). I just need to learn to talk the same lingo, we think the same.

I can't print what I think of this place without being kicked off of the board.

It's by gods grace that you were born there so please don't hold it against all of us comming on down.

Pat

One funny thing for TX is that they have colored the "Yes" green (like green for good) on the "SHOOT FIRST Is deadly force allowed to be a first resort in public?"

I don't think that's exactly what they had in mind.... but it's certainly how I'd color it.

that darn Utah waiting period for handguns probably caused our low score.
had to wait for the dang credit card machine to finish its business.

Hmmm , Maine has a score of 12 . And it's the #2 safest state . Go figure .

Weird , we got a 12 with all "no"s and 2 partials . We should be lower than that :D

New Hampshire gets an 11.

And apparently that score should be lower. One of the questions we got a "partial" on is Ballistic Fingerprinting; the explanation of the partial is "No Information Available". That New Hampshire reps laugh when you mention it does not mean that it's a 'maybe', Bradyites.

If the Brady campaign had half a brain they would stop issuing their stupid report cards
They don't so they won't.

I'm so mad right now. PA scored a 26 and is ranked #10! 10!!!! ***???? We're a very gun friendly state and the best we can do is 10th??? I thought for sure we'd break the bottom 5.

Its the b/g checks for handguns at gun shows that's killing us. Without those, we'd be botton 10 for sure.

Maine probably scored so poorly because of our weird open carry laws, where people who aren't concealed permit holders can OC, but they can't have a gun loaded in their car. I don't know how that would work out as far as wearing your gun, but it isn't great. also we have some places we can't carry concealed that make little sense, like restaraunts.

Overall though a very good state for shooting.

NC gets a 20- noot bad, I suppose.
But, what the heck?
with 'personalized' handgun technology that would only allow the authorized user to operate the firearm
Are they talking about fingerprint guns, like Bond usesin License to Kill?

Actually , you CAN carry in restaurants . It's the bars that you can't . You can carry in a restaurant even though it also has a bar . The establishment must also be posted as an off limits place .

A. Not being a law enforcement officer or a private investigator licensed under Title 32, chapter 89 and actually performing as a private investigator, the person possesses any firearm on the premises of a licensed establishment posted to prohibit or restrict the possession of firearms in a manner reasonably likely to come to the attention of patrons, in violation of the posted prohibition or restriction;

Florida got an 8!!!
What do we have to do to improve and get that elusive 0???
Stand your ground? got it.
Castle doc? got it.
Maybe it's lack of open carry?
But we don't dare scare the tourists.

It is a bit strange about the knives. I bailed a relative out of jail a while back. The deputies wondered why I carry two pocket knives and one looked at the blades:D

Hell, come on over. We're pretty friendly here. BTW, my son was stationed at Ft Campbell for a while too. He liked it there.

AirForceShooter: If you look under "the full scorecard" it breaks it down state by state on exactly what you got points for so you know what new laws you need passed to hit zero.

I'm thinking that at a 9 my state of TX is doing well but we clearly have some work to do.

BTW congratulations to Kentucky and Oklahoma, if you guys can pass CCW on campus you'll have acheived the ultimate "0" ranking that the rest of us aspire to.

Heehee a 4. :)

and we got our four points because the state does not force universities to allow guns on campus and does not force employers to allow employees to carry
