Darn it, I couldn't turn it down at $400 out the door IN A BROWNING TAKE DOWN HARDCASE!! It is as new 28" mod& full, non selective silver trigger, ejectors, with uncut stock which has couple good scratches on one side. As the stock fits me PERFECTLY I 'll try it next months on pigeons, to see if it hurts me with no recoil pad. I 'll pattern it with 1 1/8 oz 6's as the pigeons where I hunt cross pretty high. I'm bringing the old Superposed Lightning for comparison and back up (in case there is something wrong with the BSS).Then I'll decide SXS or O&U!!! :D Any body want to opine about BSS guns, the search feature revealed not much chatter in a couple years.

I shot a 20ga BSS a few weeks ago on a round of skeet. It beat me up pretty good and I missed the last bird on the round on station eight. It got me flinchy. :( It would of been a 75 straight also with 3 different guns, my .410 tubed gun, a 12ga 1897 Winchester, and the BSS. I called it quits after that round.

It was a nice well handleing gun, and quick, but really got my cheek sore. Would be great for a day of upland hunting.

I bought my first one when I graduated from college 25 years ago. a used 12g in very good shape with 26" barrels IC/M. Pure pheasant death because it fit me perfect just as it came. Later got a NIB 20g. it is a little nicer with gold selective trigger, also IC/M

They used to be a little easier to find in decent shape, but that was before Cowboy action shooting took off. Those guys have snapped up most of the BSS's and driven prices up quite a bit.

They are a great shotgun, and you got a great deal.

Very good price. The case alone would cost at least half that in most places.
Consider the BSS to be the Citori turned sideways. Solid, reliable, not flashy but certainly gets the job done. Check on some of the various auction boards or Guns America and you can congratulate yourself on a good deal.

My 12 ga BSS is one of the later ones, selective trigger and OK for steel shot. Originally 28" barrels mod and full, I had Briley backbore the barrels, lengthen the forcing cones (lightend the barrels a little), install choke tubes, and install a Kickeze recoil pad. I love it!!!

Without the pad, it didn't hurt my cheek but was was rough on my shoulder even with 3- 1 1/8 loads. OK now.

Ya gear head but I see you spent $1000 for the mods! Granted you prolly have a SXS that can't be equalled for $5000, BUT I think a recoil pad and back boreing is as much as I could spend.

You could just get the pad installed and see how you like the gun, then do the other stuff as time and money permit.

You're right, in my prejudiced opinion, about my costs- lots of money but for about $2k I have a gun that, TO ME, is equal to anything I have seen for twice the price. But as always, YMMV.

Definitely did allright. Alwasy liiked those guns. Gearhead...Briley is just about the finest shotgun smith around. He's going to work on a Model 12 Trap gun for me very soon. He worked over my Perazzi.s some years ago. I met him at a shoot and gave him my gun to take home with him. One fine fellow. As to SxSs I just got a Beretta 492 essentially as you've described with 28 inch backbored barrels and screw chokes for 3200. So with your modes you've done real well.
