How good are they in comparison to the more common Winchesters, Rossis, Marlins, etc.? Are they worth the extra money? What calibers do they make a better rifle in? Any other reasons to own a Browning versus any other make of lever action rifle?

Thanks,
Marco

It depends upon what flavor you're lookin for:)
A good friend of mine is a true believer in the BLR system and has owned a couple in the older steel receiver as well as in the aluminum jobs.
It's a whole lot easier to compensate for long shots with pointy bullets than the round nose a typical lever gun forces you to employ.
He really liked the fact that you could lever a new round in the chamber without having to move your finger off the trigger, plus the 45 degree cocking stroke is half of the traditional model.
That might make it a bit faster to the second shot if its an issue for you.

From my own research what I don't like is you can only fit about 3 rounds in the tube, while my Dad's Winchester can fit about 7.

The main advantage to the BLR is that they don't use a tubular magazine. This allows you to use pointed bullets, rather than be limited to flat-nose. It also allows Browning to chamber the rifle in many popular calibers, rather than be limited to "traditional" lever-action calibers.

The BLR is now the only lever action in production in .223, .270, 30-06, and a few others. It uses a detachable box magazine. I've always been interested in them since lever actions work great for left handed shooters.

BUY ONE NOW!!!!

My hunting buddy has one in .308. It's accurate, smooth and handles like a dream. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one in any caliber they offer. I think they are purdy too!;)

I'm right handed, so I fail to see to advantage of a lever action (that uses magazines) over a bolt. What I missing here?

I did see a Browning leveraction at the gunshop in .30-06 that I really did like though.

Only holds 3 rounds with a detachable magazine???

The Browning website lists 4 in the mag plus a chambered round-IIRC, the belted magnums carry a 3 shot mag capacity.
