Okay...So I have recently purchased a NIB Browning A-Bolt 270 Medallion and just aquired a scope for it yesterday. I decided to go with the Nikon Buckmaster 4x9x40 for two reasons... First Nikon makes awesome optics...Second My buddy had one NIB and wanting a Military Blade I had that I paid 90 dollars for it, so I told him I would give him the knife and 40 bucks, so I think thats was a pretty fair deal. Anways I was wondering should I go with factory rings and bases from Browning or go with Leupold rings?

Below is the link to the Browning set up I was considering....

I like Weaver Grand Slam Steel Rings: cheep, steel, solid, $18. You don't have to over pay for rings unless you want to. If you like Nikon scopes and want to take a step up to a real high level glass for cheap look at the team primos 3-9x40 for $199 at SWFA. It's a Monarch model they are trying to closeout and changed the name to not undersell the new monarch models. The Buckmaster you have is nice my father owns one but will be lacking at dusk and dawn. As yours is new in box you may be able to sell it to get the primos for not much more and there you will have a scope that is tough to beat for under $500.

Atblis

atblis....after looking at them they do look almost identical to the talleys... Either way I think those are the ones that I am going to end up getting... Thanks everyone for your comments..

Just my opinion leupold dont know about the browning ones, but i dont like weaver and wont have them on what i shoot, with leupold you have super strong mounts and with the low, medium and high mounts you can set them up for what you need. With the see through mounts i uses kwik mounts. hope this helps out, This is what works for me, just depens what you like, or ask your gun shop.

let me know if this helps.

Have you used the steel Weaver rings? A chunk of steel is a chunk of steel (for the most part). I've had Badger Ordinance and now I use the steel Weaver Grand Slam rings on my M1A. I've had cheep old Weaver rings on my 12 gauge for 20 years without a problem. They are not right for everything but don't discount them because they say Weaver and don't buy something just because it has Leupold on it.

Timberwolf

Thanks Timberwolf for the advice....it did help..I found these additional rings on the Browning Website but wow are they expensive...has anyone ever used these style of rings? No offense concerning weaver rings but the reason why my only other option is leuplod is because I know they make top quality products my friend has a Leupold scope on his rifle and it costs just as much as the rifle did...But thats another story... The only reason I didnt buy a leupold is because I came across a really good deal on a Nikon Scope that was hard to turn down...

Back in 1963 when I got my Win Mod 70 ftw, I did not know much but did like what I saw when comparing a Leupold to a Weaver scope, both 4x, so I bought the Leupold and had it mounted in a set of Weaver pivot mounts so I could use the iron sights . I have never in all these years had any problems with that mount, it has maintained the accuracy and returns to the same point of impact after pivoting over. From an asthetic standpoint there are other mounts I like better. I recently changed mounts on 3 Ruger #1's, two tropicals , on a 1-a, and a CZ safara to the Talley lever detachable. Other rifles tend to carry Leupold mounts.

Oh sorry I did not know you already drank the Leupold cool-aid, carry-on and I will stop trying to point you in the directions of good bang for buck products  Some Leupold products are great some are not so good, all are over priced. Btw to put my money where my mouth is (so to say) this is mine and yes those are steel weaver rings. I could have paid more but why if they do the same thing just as well. I put the money in other places where it counts:

I have Leupold Mark 4 30mm rings (with Leupold and Badger Ordnance bases) on three rifles and Warne 1" quick release rings with Leupold Mark 4 and XS bases on three rifles. I'm new to Warne rings but so far I'm very impressed with them and for less than $50 a set they're a good buy. They're obviously a lot lighter than the Leupold Mark 4 rings, which are designed for severe duty, so if you're concerned about saving weight that's a good way to go.

Whatever you buy, I would strongly advise you to lap the rings or at the very least use some ring guides such as these from Wheeler Engineering ....

... so that you can see how good/bad the alignment of the rings are ... you might be very surprised (and not in a good way). If the rings are out of alignment, you may damage the scope and the scope may move, relative to the rings, during recoil.

Either the Browning factory mounts or the Game Reaper Mounts. Both are excellent choices. If you are not familar with the Game Reaper check out the link below or search for them on the web. They make a world class product.

i've become a fan of the Burris Signature Zee rings. the self centering inserts & no marks on the scope sold me. i've had no problems through hundreds of rounds of 270 win.
