I will purchase a buckmark in the very near future. A few questions:

Does buckmark treat their carbon steel with a salt bath? (e.g. nitrocarburize, tenifer & melonite)

Is there any practical / functional difference between stainless and carbon steel with the buckmark?

I did some google searching and all the threads seem to revolve around cosmetics..... something I don't care about.

Thanks,

I can't tell you what Browning coats their black guns with, but mine is 9 years old, with thousands of rounds through it, and still looks really good.

Light reflecting off of a stainless steel barrel can be distracting depending on the conditions you are shooting under and how much accuracy you desire.

Even so, I generally prefer stainless slides/barrels (easier to maintain, the front sight is easier to pick up at speed, and I think they look nicer) except for bullseye shooting where accuracy is number one, then I prefer very dull black.

The black Camper model has been shipped with the plastic sight base. They are converting to the metal sight base so check when you before you buy if you care.

The 'stainless Camper' and 'Camper stainless' (yes, there have been both models) has always had the metal sight base.

I believe all of the higher models have always had the metal sight base.

Not correct. I have an early Stainless Camper, and it had the plastic sight base. I say "had" because it cracked on me and I replaced it with a metal sight base.

Interesting. Thanks for the correction.

How long ago? How 'early' of a model are you talking?

I dont doubt you... just curious. They've piece mealed about 10k models over the years LOL so there is a lot of variances with the Buck Mark both good and bad.

It was my understanding from reading a ton of threads on RFC that it was metal on all of the stainless models... for .. like... forever.

i got a 2010 stainless camper and it has a plastic sight base, also in regards to the OP I painted my barrel black
