So a friend and I went down to the local gunshop today to oogle for a while.

He is/was in the market for a revolver and I am looking for a semi-auto pistol. Well we have a friend that works there and he gave us a sneak peak at a Dan Wesson .357 mag that had been traded in earlier that day and hadn't even been listed for sale yet.

We looked it over and he decided that he was pretty interested in it. Overall the gun was in excellent shape. The only thing that he didnt like were the grips because they were pretty large and were actually quite ugly looking.

So he decides to ask the owner of the store how much for the piece?

$200!! Needless to say my buddy jumped all over it and is now the proud owner of a piece of Dan Wesson engineering.

I didnt find any good deals on Semi-auto pistols but I was happy because he got such a good deal.

Trade out the grips for a set of Packmayr fingergrooves. Still ugly grips but they really help the feel of the gun. Dan Wesson also made some wooden finger groove grips that aren't too bad. Iv'e traded grips over the years with my DW's and Pach's are still my favorite.

Was that by any chance one of the pistol packs from Dan Wesson?? I think the nomenclature was the Model 15. If so, then he did get one heck of a good price for it... I remember drooling over those in the early eighties. Since DW's demise I had heard the the complete Pistol Packs complete with DW patch and Belt buckle were going for a premium price. so $200 would certainly be a steal.

If it was just the lone M15 DW it was a deal. If It was a pistol pack I think you should be ashamed of yourself for taking advantage of the dealer and sell it to me for $200.00 to soothe your troubled conscience. :D

I dont know a whole lot about it.

It looks almost identical to this but the grips are a lighter color.

I paid more than that for my first Dan Wesson M15 more than 30 yrs ago. Haven't regretted it for a minute.

IMO, anything they might lack in aesthetic "elegance" or sophistication compared to a S&W or Colt revolver of contemporary manufacture is more than compensated for by their consistently fine accuracy and unique versatility.

I've put more ammo in a wider variety of flavors downrange through it than virtually any other CF arm I've ever owned. I couldn't even guess exactly how many, but it's well into the 5-digits.

Nothing has broken or worn out yet, and I've replaced springs only twice. It shows some miles, but it's still the most consistently accurate .357 I own.

Your buddy got a rare deal. Hope you get as lucky with your semiauto.

I told him that if he didnt buy it I was going to because it was a heck of a good deal even if i didnt want a revolver

Your buddy got a real deal there. I got both of the ones I have now for under $300, shipped. The SS one was barely fired, from what I could tell. I've had 6 Dw .357's of various models and they have all been great.

That DW could have a broken leg and a sprained arm and still be worth more than 200 kasmackers. That is a very good deal, and a vanashing breed of a deal.
Dan Wesson grips come in 2 of my favorites...The "Combat" and the "Sacramento" style. They also made a wooden block which was fitted to the frames but could be carved the best way to fit the shooters hands.
