What are some brands/styles/pricing/suggestions/types that have worked for you?

It is for my black rifle, i intend to train with them to a certain proficiency, then mount a magnified scope.

Help...?

I'm mostly in the market for folding, and would really like the troy, but they are a little above what i have budgeted. I will take a look at Larue, though.

Troy is top notch for folding. They recently came out with a fixed rear BUIS as well.

I have a Daniel Defense fixed rear; it's OK, not great.

I had and returned a Midwest Industries fixed rear - I was not happy with the quality.

I don't have the Magpul polymer back-up sights, but have not heard anything bad about them.

I have the Magpul BUIS on an AR 10 they are rugged enough for me and a complete set can be found for less than the competitors rear sight by itself.

Chop the detachable carrying handle like the LMT BUIS and paint with black Krylon spraypaint. Very simple and RUGGED!!! 45 minutes with a hacksaw, dremel tool, and a file. I like my BUIS fixed and bullet-proof! I get bottow 1/3 cowitness with my Aimpoint.

I was looking at those magpul...are those plastic or polymer? how strong is that polymer? looks fragile...

Sorry Z Stepehens, I don't understand the difference between plastic or polymer. If there is a difference I don't know what it is.

Ha! I don't either! I was more thinking them as one and the same. Maybe plastic/polymer. I'm just wondering how secure and tough you think they are. Sorry about the confusion!

Plastic and polymer are two terms for the range of materials we call plastics. Anyone who claims differently is probably marketing.

If you want to truly use them as *back up* iron sights, then you can't go wrong with the Magpul MBUS. I have them on one rifle and a troy rear on another rifle (with a fixed front sight). The Troy is solid as a rock and really slick, but the MBUS is very practical, light, low cost, and more solid than you would expect, plus they're spring loaded so they pop up with the flip of a switch which I really like. The Troys meanwhile deploy manually. I don't feel like the MBUS are flimsy at all. Since you said "budget" I wouldn't hesitate to go with the MBUS.

Those are approaching the cost of actual Troy sights. And the ad's wrong, real Troy sights are also made of aluminum alloy (except for some small steel parts).

Very few off-brand clones are worth buying. On a tight budget, go with MBUIS. On a bigger budget, consider real Troy BUIS.

On a good-sight-for-lowest-cost metric, I'd say the Magpul MBUS wins that hands down. The rear isn't click-adjustable for range, though, just windage, but if you zero at 50 yards you're close to right on at 200, so unless you plan on shooting 300 or 400 yards with irons then the MBUS will work pretty well.

I agree with Barker45, this is the cheapest BUIS that gives you enough rail to mount an optic. Won't fold down but is tough as nails. I got mine from a guy selling them for $40 on the EE of AR15.com. He had a bunch four months ago, don't know about now. LMT's is great but costs about $120 so falls out of the budget range.

Matech are floating around out there for less than $50. Not ideal and I like the chop carry handle idea, but it works as a backup on the Bushmaster M4ish since I always just use the Aimpoint. I have 2 other ARs with Troys and they are much nicer. However, since they spend 90% of the time down while the Aimpoints do the work, I can't say you'd really miss them if you're on a budget.

If you are buying a set go with the Magpuls, if you are using the front sight tower buy MaTech rear only.

yeah the mag pul sight is among the least expensive on the market that i have seen. i i was gonna buy one, that is what i would go with.

unless others have dropped prices, Midwest Ind. is a pretty good buy. I got mine from Bravo for like $80. It works just like any other and is rock solid.
