Well I got the S&W 637 I,ve been lusting after and will be making some handloads, just a thought with a 2" barrel powder wont have long to burn, so I thought bullseye. Any thoughts?
I,ve been loading 3gr. with 148gr. HBWC for my 4in. S&W 66 mild and accurate.
Thanks and Shoot Safe

I use 3.7 grains Bullseye, with a 158 grain SWC cast or plated bullet in my 642. Just under +P, and is quite accurate.

Yes indeed. Fast powders in snubbies (make mine WST) don't blow that big fireball that wows the nighttime spectators, but that's often a good thing. ;)

There maybe better powders for a snub but Bullseye has always served me well :)

Thats the exact Load I use. I also use this in my 4" Model 10 and can Hit steel plates @100 yards.

38 Special Data

I have shot thousands upon thousands of 38 Special rounds using 3.5 grains of Bullseye with 158 grain LSWC, JHP, LRN, LBBFPRN, etc. Point of aim between the bullets type is close enough that I cannot tell a difference between bullets. I truly think that my flinch causes more variation in impact than bullet configuration. Velocities are so similar it would take a statistical analysis, (perhaps Students T test?) to see if there is a velocity difference between a LSWC and a LRN of the same alloy.

I have shot that load in many revolvers, some I still own, some I do not. I have shot that load in 38 Snubbies, four inch barreled 38’s, and 357 Revolvers. It shoots very well in them all.

The dumped charges are as similar as I can make them, given a Dillion progressive, there are variations due to which primers I used. Primer use is based on who was making the cheapest primer at the time of loading. Winchester has been the consistently low cost primer maker for a while, most loads are WSP.

I have never found a need to use the same case, so I am using brass that has been fired God Knows how many times and a rainbow of headstamps. All of which shoot fine.

I have shot other powders and other loads, but Bullseye is so constantly accurate and shoots to Point of Aim in the fixed sight revolvers, that I have standardized on that load and powder and see no reason to chase the “Powder de jour” . It also is close to the non +P factory ammunition I have shot in terms of velocity. So I consider this load equivalent to factory ammunition.

Now the S&W series of revolvers are sighted for 125 grain bullets. The older snubbies were sighted for 158 grain bullets. I developed some 125 grain loads with Bullseye, and it worked very well.

Sure...Bullseye works fine. My particular powder measure doesn't throw the large flake powders as consistantly as the flattened ball like WW231. So that is what I use.

It is picking a nit, too, but Bullseye seems to burn a little sootier than 231 for me. YMMV

Thanks for all the feedback, I,ve not done any reloading in a while and thought there may be some new insights. thank goodness some things remain the same!
Just happen to have some bullseye, and 148gr. HBWC guess I,ll get busy

I'll be using a 2-inch Colt Detective Special to shoot 200 rounds of .38 Spl HBWC, 148-gr, at the range tomorrow. About half of them will have ~2.65 grains of Bullseye (cavity .30 on the Lee Deluxe Auto Disk), and the rest will have about 2.9 grains of Bullseye (cavity .32 on the Lee Deluxe Auto Disk).

Just started reloading, and thus far I've shot about 50 rds of the above loads through the Det. Spl. Looking forward to see how they work.

Bullseye ? there is reason it's called Bullseye :D The Bullseye I bought 25 yrs ago seems no different from the Bullseye I bought yesterday.
