What's the best way to bury handguns, should the need ever come up?

Here's what I came up with. Better suggestions? Please reply.

Wrap it in a zip-lock plastic bag, wrap that in tinfoil, wrap that with another heavy duty plastic bag, duct-tape the whole thing then seal it with one of those kitchen vacuum sealers. Bury it in a wooded area and using a GPS record the location.

Thanks for any replies.

I don't see the need to do anything so drastic, but should you ever, I'd want to use something a little sturdier than plastic baggies & aluminum foil. That would be a start, maybe. Lube it really well, then put that package you describe inside a small wooden, metal, or multiple layer cardboard container to prevent accidental puncture (and failure) of the plastic moisture barrier. You could also use a capped & sealed PVC pipe with a double ziploc moisture barrier inside.

But technical aspects aside, what are you expecting? World War III? UN invasion? Come on, be serious.

And with the leftover tinfoil you can make a hat.:D

But a kitchen vacuum sealer and a metal/wooden box would probably do the trick.

A lot of old wisdom states that the time you feel the need to bury guns is also the time to dig them up.

That stated, I would cosmo the weapons and seal them in pvc pipe with oxygen absorbers.

Not that a condone hiding anything, but have you considered a Pelican case with a few dessicate packs? Cosmoline is your friend.

Most zip lock baggies are not waterproof, they actually do let-in (and out) moisture.

What's the point of the aluminum foil? It doesn't protect anything (deflect alien probes?) and will only serve to hold-in and conduct moisture directly to the surface of the firearm.

Long term storage should include combinations of dessicant and hard (PVC) containers to protect against moisture and elements (dirt, rocks). It also wouldn't hurt to use grease/cosmoline on all metal surfaces.

Rnb65 Hit It On The Head.. Lmao

...

And, I will not be a party to any, possible, crime, or activity (cover-up) that makes one post such a stupid public statement, and question, that is only good for the Anti-gun nuts to point at and say, SEE!!!

LS :scrutiny:

PS. off the record, I would put it in Tupperware, launch it into space orbit, then wait till the heat died down or, you're of age or, you just need it again, then send out a recall signal and bring it back down to earth at night..

I had to see if this thread was real...
We definitely need a tin foil hat smiley

Edit: Maybe in the meantime we can use this:

And when you come back in a year, there will be a
thriving glockberry bush.

I have used heavyduty freezer zip bags and blue jean
legs to make cat litter sand bags. While the freezer bags
have held up in the truck of my car for years, I would
not trust them to keep guns safe under extreme conditions.
The classic sealed PVC pipe is the best underground
storage option. Remember, many plastic wrappings are
actually designed to biodegrade on exposure to the
elements.

Your GPS idea will probably leave you digging wayyyyyyyy too many holes to find it again. You need to have a fixed measurement or a metal detector...

I'm going to go ahead and do it, since no one else has yet:
Why would you need to bury your pistol, other than for criminal purposes?

i was surprised and disappointed, especially considering todays political trends concerning guns,to see how some of you busted this guys balls just for asking this question. he did specify,"should the need ever come up", not "quick, somebody gimme a shovel !!" personally, i'm very concerned myself, and if i need to get fitted for a tinfoil brim,so be it.:D
now to add something hopefully useful.....from what i've read on the subject, cosmoline and a PVC pipe is the way to go, some silica gel ,too. another one i read that seemed interesting was to put a small (birthday?) candle inside just prior to sealing,as it will burn up the O2.

Just hypothetically, in an alternate universe, let's suppose I was living in a foreign country with which the U.S. had been at war, say from 1941 to 1945 and I went out to the little gardens many residents kept on small plots in the country. Now in this hypothetical universe I noticed something odd about one piece of ground one time, and this hypothetical person said, "That's my army rifle, in case the Russians come."

Since I'm the original poster on this thread I have one question......

DO YOU LIVE IN MASSACHUSETTS???

Go ahead and laugh......the day may come. The sneaky SOB's at the State House may pass a law in heartbeat, they have done it before.

What happens if the .gov shuts down the gps system:confused: Than how will you find your guns. I suggest you also mark the cord using loran also.
Thats run by the cost guard, not as likely to be switched off.:scrutiny:
