Hurry, I will need your comments. The local store, Griggs, will be celebrating their 70th Anniversary and will be selling their AR-15's at, I think, reasonable prices. Both are carbines with A1 uppers with 16" barrels, carrying handles and collapsible stocks. The DPMS will sell for $878-$998 vs the Bushmaster from $1069-$1088.

This will be my first AR-15 to own. Which brand would you go for?

Thanks.

bushmaster

Get the Bushy, I have a DPMS. Had a horribly canted FSB. Sent it back, they promised a new barrel, got back the same barrel with oversized penned rivets. Still canted as hell.

If you have a Cabala's near you, they have Bushy M-4 A-3's on sale right now for $1,049, while supplies last.

I've handled many bushmasters, and would have say they're probably worth paying a bit more over the DPMS models. The quality seems better, maybe not quite Colt, but pretty darn close. DPMS models that I've seen have not been all that impressive. If it came down to a choice, I'd definitely go with the Bushmaster over the DPMS; though for full disclosure, I'm from Maine and have had several good experiences with the folks at Bushmaster before. Just my two cents.
Best of luck,
IWG

from my understanding... parts for bushmaster and DPMS are the same... calling one better quality is nothing more than preferring a name... granted... the sportical isnt the same as a top of the line bushmaster, but accessories and options equal, be it an ORC or a fully loaded rifle, they are equal.

and the new colt ar's are a joke.. I have been unimpressed by them...

the smith and wessons however are quite nice...

Going to the trailer sale on GW way, eh
Go with the bushmaster, you'll never regret it. The DPMS is a fine rifle, but spend the extra dough.

Parts are only the same in the most gernal terms. The quality of the parts is better in the Bushmaster..

Now I am very curious as to why you think new Colts are a joke.

I dont think colts are a joke in general.. the older ones were the top of the line, however, they have been putting out sub par AR's recently...I would take a new DPMS over a NEW colt AR any day...
