Buyer's Remorse: HK USP .45F

Yea, show it off. We would like to drool over it. :)

I have spent more than that on guns and still am glad I did. I have spent less than that and it was a waste of money. Sometimes it was the other way around though. I have gotten screaming deals and been happy and I have overpaid and been happy. I am not happy with every purchase I have ever made, but I always thought it was a good idea at the time. :p

If you like it $900 worth, then it is worth it.

I would rather have the HK over the Glock or XD or both or two of each. They don't get much better than the HK. I have put 150 rounds downrange through my son's. He has the LEM trigger, long but about a smooth as they get. yours is a Mercedes, he is driving a Chevy. ;)

I know I probably sound primitive, but I have no idea how to post pics on the internet. I have a camera on my cell phone and even that was difficult to master. *sigh*...One day I'll figure it out.

As others have said, I would say he was jealous if anything. All of my LEO friends are issued Sigs, and they are from different departments as well. Sigs are pretty darn close to the price of a HK, often times departments decide on their issue weapons based on the lowest bidder. HK makes great guns, like many things you get what you pay for.

Assuming it fits you, is reliable and accurate I don't know how ANYBODY could unhappy with a HK purchase.

They are a bit too big for my girly hands but I think you got yourself a fine shooting iron. I don't know why you would care what anybody else would think though.

The USP45 is a fine gun...I would have kept mine if they fit my hands better. But if it works for you then it should serve you very well.

I think the USP frame mounted safety/decocker is a great thing. I wish more guns had something like that.

I almost picked up a P2000, it was just about 1/2 inch short for my hands, i like a full grip. So I got the xd40 instead. The HK was a quality weapon that felt great and I have no doubt's about their quality. But the question is, why buy an Acura when you can get a Honda? Why take a walk in the park when you can just pop a pill? (shameless Seinfeld quote, sorry.) Because its what you want. You pay for fit and finish, and the HK is a fine weapon. As long as you can shoot it well. 200 bucks increase in price on a firearm isn't much once you figure in 5 years of ammunition for it. Keep the gun.

Ya rented & shot for a year before making your decision. You picked a fine pistol.

The USP45 is a great pistol. the only things that come close IMHO are nice (read "expensive") 1911's and SiG's. I would laugh if anyone wanted to trade a Ruger or a Glock or two of each for my USP45. I like it that much. Unless the gun just doesn't fit your hands or you just can't shoot it well, there's nothing to be remorseful about.

Lets see, I also collect flashlights and other lighting items (classic oil lanterns and such). I have flashlights that cost more than $300 and I have at least two antique lanterns that I bought for $450 each.

It's....interesting to watch people's faces when they find out how much some of my flashlights are worth. Hey it's my money and I really enjoy having top shelf lighting tools to use. I really enjoy having quality firearms as well because if I ever (God forbid) really need them, there will be no room for failure.

"You Done Good Son!"

Just to get my .02 in here as well.
HK makes a fine piece. I spent many moons and countless hours reading online forums and reviews, visiting gunshops, shooting rentals, reading magazines - all to try to make the best, most informed decision as to what handgun would be best for ME.

I started by looking at IMI products, XDs, Glocks, CZs, 1911s - None of them really fit me. I finally came across the USP lineup and was about to get the USP45 - until I found out my wife couldn't reach the trigger with her little hands. So I ended up with the next best thing - HKP2000 - and she loves it. She shoots better with it then I do. Sure it cost more than most 9mm handguns - but it is what I wanted. (I've recently put in the XL backstrap and that has made it an entirely different pistol for me. With the medium size it was too small and my accuracy suffered.) Glocks and XDs are fine guns. If I had the money to just go out and buy them, I'd get one of every major reliable handgun make out there.

You bought the gun that you like. The gun that you wanted. Don't worry about what your friend thinks. Does he drive the cheapest car on the lot? It's the same thing. Once I get the money - I'm buying a Mercedes. My saying is this - "Any car can get us from point A to B. Its the style in which we go that matters."

Btw - I'm so impressed by this HK - that I am now shopping for the other higher end 9mm - Sig P226! Gotta love the Swiss and the Germans. :D

I know what you mean Ze, headphones are another expensive hobby that some people just don't "get." :) A couple of years ago I signed up on a popular headphone forum and I was shocked when I saw that many sets go from 1-3k, with many quality tube and solid state headphone amps selling for several thousand dollars each!

But, as with anything, more expensive doesn't always equate to better quality. A Mercedes will run you many times that of a Honda, but if you look at the maintenance/reliability records they are inversely proportional. I consider Glock to be the rough equivalent of Honda...it doesn't cost that much to get into one but they'll run flawlessly for years and years. I'd have no reservations trusting my Glock to accurately and reliably send a bullet in the BG's direction should my life be in danger. Or an HK for that matter. :)

I paid close to $1000 for my TWO USP45.

He said that I could have gotten the 9mm Ruger

hahahaha :D what a joke.

you have HK, he has Ruger. Chicks know which one of you is loaded. :D

A Mercedes will run you many times that of a Honda

yes, until you ride in one, you don't really know what you're talking about.

Don't feel bad about your purchase. I really wouldn't consider a friend somebody who made me feel bad about a major purchase of a quality weapon. If you are satisfied with your purchase, I say ignore this "friend."

The USP is no better and no worse than a Glock, function wise. Workmanship is superior. Accuracy usually is also, in my experience.

Glock got as popular as it is in the LE world by offering deals other manufacturers couldn't match. Once some federal contracts appeared, that added to the momentum. Lots of agencies will do whatever the FBI is doing at the moment. Once H&K started pricing competitively with Glock on LE contracts, they had to overcome Glocks dominance in the marketplace. Chesapeake PD completed a transition to .40 USP compacts some years ago and I hear that they're very happy with them.

Your friend probably buys generic paper towels 'cuz they're cheaper than Bounty, the quicker picker' up'per.

LE Agencies buy Glock's & others because they are on public budgets. If they could they would buy H&K's & Sigs all day.

gudel, I have ridden in a few of them actually. My most favorite being the S65 AMG, but then again, I'm a speed nut.

I'm not saying the luxury and refinement aren't there. They definitely are. My comment was made based on reliability, not comfort, status, and amenities.

Please don't assume, and let's keep this on topic.

The fact is, Glocks work and they work well. LEAs wouldn't buy them if they were unreliable and put the officers' lives in jeopardy. Sure, they're on a budget...but if they can get something that meets department requirements and works as well for less moolah, they will. Everyone here has their own personal preferences when it comes to firearms, but personal preference isn't something that often comes into play when buying thousands of guns for officers in the line of duty. It is a formula of function vs. cost.

ajl2121,

Simple question: How do YOU feel about how the gun handles, shoots, and fits in your hand? If the answer to these is I like all of it... then who cares what your friend says?

Firearms purchases are such a personal thing, that I don't ridicule someone for their purchases. I have a friend with an HK USP in 40 S&W. I prefer the Springfield XD series. You know what? we smile and then go back to the range to do some plinking. I have a strange infatuation for Mosin Nagants. He hates the things, vastly preferring Mausers. I have 2 and don't shoot them that much.

In short, different strokes for different folks. I'd either limit shooting with this guy, or ask him if he really thinks he can shoot all his guns at one time.

Next time he is there with his Glock or XD, use his own logic on him:

"You wasted how much on that thing?" You could have had two Hi-Points or four Jennings! :neener:

If he's trying to say Glocks are better because cops use them, remind him that Navy SEALs use SIGs and HKs.

Ajl,

I'm going to be the dissenter here. You got the wrong gun. Send me your H&K USP 45F and I will send you a Glock 19. Sweet problem solved.

Actually, I have 2 Glocks and 2 H&K's, and while the Glocks ARE great, I carry an H&K every day.

Noops

I've sold and traded a few guns over the years, but the one that I'll always regret was trading my original USP40 for a glock 22. I bought into the glock hype, and discovered later I was only lust and not love. Stick with your purchase, you'll likely never wear that pistol out.

.

This seems like another case of:

1. You didn't get what I have
2. You must have made the wrong decision (because I made the right one)

Your friend probably buys generic paper towels 'cuz they're cheaper than Bounty, the quicker picker' up'per.

I do this.

Plenty of replies already but I would take the H&K over any other out there.

Unless I personally don't like the feel or don't like how it shoots would be the only reason I would feel I made the wrong decision.

After that trip to the range, I felt really bad about my purchase.

I was just thinking the opposite yesterday, wishing I had never wasted money on Kimbers and Colts and Glocks after shooting some of my best groups ever with my USP .45. (my handloads, I'm so proud)
