I have seen several speeches comparing buying ammunition and spray paint in California, as in "it's easier to buy a box of bullets than it is a can of spray paint."

Is there something special to buying spray paint in California or is this just some asinine comparison?

Spray paint is not sold to minors in most stores. This is theoretically to reduce graffiti. To buy ammo, you must be 18 and have valid ID. So I guess it's just as easy/hard to buy both ammo and spray paint.

i would guess

they are reffering to the law here -
you have to be 18 to buy spray paint, and stores are pretty good about enforcing it.
(of course kids are even better at stealing it and getting others to buy it)

this is one wacko law that is kinda good in my opinion.

i have to keep spray paint on hand to cover the weekly tags of these losers on my truck.

EVERYTHING gets "tagged" here, and only bout 1 in 1000 tags qualify as art.

it is a total idiot kid's game.

ANYWAY- i'd say not a good comparison .

Both of those consumable require you to get an employee to acccess the goods in a locked cabinet, behind the counter or in a secure area not accessable by the customers. Both items require you to prove that you are old enough to purchase them.

I used to get a lot of guff for purchasing paint when I was younger. The good thing about a beater is: you can paint it a new color every week for cheap.

kids here in los angeles do not use spray paint only. they use markers (markers over 1/4 in is a misdemeanor here in la while in juve posession), paint bottles, paint markers, "slaps" (usually usps priority mail stickers with taggin on them)... etc.

ive see crayon tagging.
