It never should take longer than 4 weeks.Something has gone amiss.
Immediately call the ATF at 1-866-662-2750 or email them at :

I just got mine last week, was out of town not sure which day it actually came in the mail but was between the 25-28. My CC was charged on Jul 11. So it took 2-2.5 weeks, something is definately wrong with that and I would take the advice of Solo Flyer and call them ASAP.

I sent in my RENEWAL back in Feb. Got charged, then nothing. So now they say my license is expired and they never got a renewal. I know that they CHARGED me so they certainly received my packet, but of course the receptionist bunny just turfs me to random voicemails. GRRRR

Anyway, the number to call is (404) 417-2750. Make sure you have your license number (if renewing).

Mine took 3 days shy of four months. From what I gather, they send them out in batches. Several people from the various boards I frequent got theirs the same day as me, and sent them out anywhere from 2 weeks prior to 3 months prior. It almost seems like they hold on to everyone application until they have a certain amount, then send them all out at once.

before "homeland security" became a catch phrase, the ATF paper work said 60 days to process paper work, since 9-11 "pick a number" jwr

Well, Mr. ATF says my renewal, despite having been paid BEFORE it expired, is AWOL and since my old license has expired, I'll have to apply for a brand new license.

He cheerily said that I could submit a cover letter saying that they have been holding $30 for me for 6 months and could they kindly apply it to my new license application.

That thudding sound is my head hitting the desk.

It is nothing unusual for it to take up to three months from what I can gather.

oklahoma caveman:maybe I better retract my statement.I got mine in 14 days in 2006.Yet all these folks are saying 3,4,5 months are not uncommon, sent out in batches, whatever.
So, just wait until Christmas, and if it doesn't show up,then wait til Valentine's Day and then May Day and then.............

I applied for mine during Summer 2007. After exactly 3 months of checking the mailbox almost daily, I finally called the national licensing center and tracked down the ATF examiner for my region. He was extremely nice and explained that they had a huge backlog, but he finished my application up while I was still on the phone, and I had it in my hands a few days later.

I got mine in exactly 30 days. IIRC ATF is required to notify you of the disposition of your application - approved or denied - within 60 days. If it's been more then two months, contact them.

I called them when I realized I put my CC number down wrong. They pulled my application and held on to it for me and allowed me to send a check. Even with my screw-up they had it to me in 30 days. The ATF folks in the Atlanta licensing office are OK by me.

My experience was very similar to MDEK's. After what seemed like a VERY long time with no reply I gave them a call. The agent never really gave me a reason why the delay (there wasn't a problem with how I filled out the paper work). Sounded like it just got hung up in his pile. He made the approval while we chatted. I had the license within a few days. So, don't be bashful about giving them a call to goose things along.

First time for me. Received it July 31. I think it took 48 or 50 days from mailing the app to receiving the paper.

as said, I'ddefinitely call and see whats up. M original one took about 2 weeks, and I just sent in my renewal application last month, and got the new license in about 2 weeks also, so that tells me that they arent just really backed up right now, or mine would have been delayed too, as I sent it in AFTER yours, but already got it. Sorry to hear about your bad luck. Some admin, assistant pobly had in fall off the stack in his/her "IN" box between the desk and wall, or spilled coffee on it, or some BATFE agent came in and got blood on it from the puppy he just stomped during a raid, or some thing :neener::D

(nobody freak out, it was just a joke)
